Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan will charge drivers every time they enter Manhattan south of 60th street. Cars would be charged $8 and trucks $21 on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

State lawmakers in Albany must also approve the plan in order for the city to get $354 million in federal funds allocated for congestion relief. [wnbc]

there are many more people out there than just sick people going to see their doctors in manhattan. if this passes it will help all the people who take public transit which is a majority of the people in this city, and it will also help those who commute by car by making their commutes faster. also, think of the fact that less congestion will mean sick people (whether in cars or ambulances) will see their doctors faster than otherwise. it makes no sense to base legislation on the extremely tiny minority of sick people going to see their doctors. if they need help, then we should pass some law to help them out financially, not let everyone in the world drive on publicly owned streets for free. Thank you, Simcha Felder, and shame on all those who voted against congestion pricing.

Many of the hospitals that our oilem uses are in lower Manhattan. Will we be charged for taking the sick for appointments & treatments? During a healthy pregnancy a woman sees her doctor at least a dozen times – not including extras. What was Simcha thinking???? I wish he’d explain publicly.

    THANK YOU SIMCHA FELDER!!!!

You have the foresight to see what is best for your district and the city… I know the people that read this blog are probably concerned that they will lose their parking placards and sirens.

Anyone who has a minute to call or write an email, please do so, although it is after the fact of their vote they still have to work out details.

Please explain to them what it means for the community to have these organizations like Chesed taking patients and their families to hospitals and to therapy like dialisys ,chemo and fertility, where they cant use public transportation.
Also Chaveirim and Mekimi and Bikur cholim as wel.

It is as simple as this: Bill De Blasio, running for Brooklyn Borough President voted against taxing Brooklynites, Simcha who is running for Comptroller (city wide office) sucked up to the people he needs for his next political position and screwed Brooklyn.

Can someone describe how the plan will be implemented. Will there be new toll booths added at 60th Street on every avenue block running North to South? How about if you took any of the east river crossings into the city but simply wished to take the FDR or the WSH to the GWB, will you be charged $8 as well? There is precious little information out there.

The DN’s Adam Lisberg informs me that the roll call is continuing in the City Council chamber, but the vote has hit the magic number of 26, and so…

The home rule message on congestion pricing passes. Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Mayor Bloomberg’s carrot and stick campaign was successful.

    Now, on to Albany.

UPDATE1: The official vote was 30-20. Councilwoman Helen Foster was asbent.
