Officials say the accident, on the eastbound Cross Bronx Expressway ramp to the northbound New Englang Thruway, wreaked havoc on both roadways.
All eastbound lanes were closed on the Cross Bronx Expressway at the Bruckner interchange ramp to the Throgs Neck and Whitestone bridges.
All northbound lanes on the New England Thruway were closed at Zerega Avenue. Additionally, all traffic to Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges were being detoured to local roads at Zerega Avenue via the service road.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
This is very sad.
The Cross Bronx Expressway is a parking lot during most rush hours, even without any accidents. But the location is inaccurate; the Cross Bronx does not intersect the New England Thruway. The interchange is probably that with the Bruckner Expressway.
