New York – Barack Obama Won 77 Percent of Jewish vote, Exit Polls Show

New York – Despite the tense rift between Republican and Democratic Jews over the course of the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign, exit polls on Tuesday showed that Barack Obama received about 77 percent of the Jewish vote.

These numbers were higher even than the 2004 election, when Democratic candidate John Kerry received 74 percent of the Jewish vote. Al Gore received the highest percentage of Jewish votes in 2000, with 79 percent.

Jeremy Ben-Ami, executive director of the J Street lobby group on Tuesday called Obama’s victory a sign that the campaign waged against him by Republican Jews comprised “baseless smears.”

“American Jews resoundingly rejected the two-year, multi-million dollar campaign of baseless smears and fear waged against him by the right wing of our community,” he said. “Surrogates and right-wing political operatives in our community stopped at nothing in their efforts to sway Jewish voters against Obama.”

“We can only hope that these results put to rest for good the myth that fear and smear campaigns – particularly around Israel – can be an effective political weapon in the Jewish communit,” he added.

A Gallup poll released in late October showed Jewish voters favored Barack Obama over John McCain by more than 3 to 1, with 74% saying they would vote for Obama over 22% for McCain.

The poll, which interviewed over 650 Jewish registered voters each month since June, showed American Jews growing increasingly comfortable with Obama since July, when the Illinois Senator tied up the Democratic Party nomination.

The poll showed support for McCain among Jews stood at a high of 34% in June, before beginning its downward turn in July after Obama’s nomination.

It’s not shocking. Read the Jewish tabloids like the Jewish Week , Jewish Journal , Forward ,et al… and you’ll see the mad Jewish gallop to the Democtars and left wing agendas in general. Some of their columnists , especially this Fein fellow , can make you vomit.
The worst part of it is that so many of these Jews call these anti-Torah views ( abortion , gay marriage ,etc. “Jewish values.” Of couse , they wouldn’t know a Jewish value if they tripped over one.
I can’t think of any other ethnic group that has so little self-pride.

#6 is right. You have to distinguish between Jews who vote like Jews and Jews who vote like goyim. If a Yid thought that Obama would be good for yidden (for whatever reason, I can’t imagine) then fine. But if he voted for Obama b/c he puts the needs of others ahead of his own family and people, then he’s no different from a goy voting for Obama.

Perhaps the 77% has intelligent and valid opinions? Or does the 23% have an infallible lock on emes? Part of mature participation in a democratic process is non-villification of one’s political opponents and a respect for those who vote differently with you do. Both McCain and Obama represent mainstream American, democratic political traditions – much more so than do Bush/Cheney/Rove – and we all will do just fine under an Obama administration.

Ok so lets see an exit poll that breaks down the vote of Orthodox Jews. Remember these exit polls are voluntary and so if wouldnt surprise me if alot of the supposed Jewish vote came from both messianics and deform movement who call themselves Jews. And yes I did say deform movement because most of the reform are NOT halachic yids because of assimilation throughout the generations….

Once again, the lines are finely defined between Jews who lead Jewish lives, and those who are Jewish in name only. Already today Hamas has fired rockets into Israel, California is ready to roll out their gay marriage agenda, Barak and Barack are soldiers in arms, etc. Welcome to Obama’s America.

Our Rebbeim have been telling us for years not too get too comfortable here, that the USA, as good as it’s been, is still Galus. Hashem will now make that message clear to all of us, only the secular Jews in FL, PA, NYC, etc still won’t get the message.

What they don’t tell you is that only 22% of Republican voters participate in exit polls, vs 77% of Democrat voters.

Guess what, according to the NY POST In ’04 75% of jews voted for Kerry, however 95% OF ORTHODOX JEWS voted for Bush.
I suspect the numbers are the same with this election.

I guess 77% of jews need to have their heads examined. I understand the 96% of blacks voting for him (tell me thats not racist!).

What will be in 6 months when people still can’t pay their bills? When they see we are still in Iraq & Afghanistan? When overall there has been no great “change” and we are still full of “hope?” They will wake up and say, “What the g’henim did we do to ourselves?” When that happens it will be time for the mid-term elections and the libs will lose a few – or more – seats in the House & Senate. Maybe we will be able to dump Chuckie Shmucky Schumer too???

What’s the big deal, we need change the way our economy has been for the last 5 yrs is ridiculous. He’s not white that’s the problem you racist people, Middle income families was his catch phrase. Jews aren’t that far of think of all the taxes we pay and still pay for private schooling and education, think of all the Jews on Medicare and other government programs, half of every Jewish neighborhood is either on food stamps and or well fare while the other have has inheritance from some crook bubbu or zadi. I’m a Jew who like many others works very hard to make ends meat, We as a nation need change and if a man like Barak Obama can make history by being the first ever African American President Elect then his reputation will prevail and I strongly believe that CHANGE will be made. Enough with these statements “MAY HASHEM HELP US!!!!!!!” Its about time we get some change!

How does the fact that Jews didn’t listen prove that the campaign was false? All this proves is that Jews are gullible, and were particularly swayed by the smear campaign against Palin. Just two days before the election I got an email repeating the claim that Palin had been a Buchanan supporter! And the Democrats have the chutzpah to talk about smears?

I never cried so hard as when Iheard the ‘acceptnce speech’ which by the way sounded like a Hitler youth rally. Also, the horrifying pics of the out of control partying..this is the new face of America..and I voted for Mccain at 630 am, so I did mine. SHAME on all you self hating Jews, Obama will care of YOU first, thats for sure..

I’m a frum, yeshiva-community guy, and I voted for Obama. The only fools around here are those who bought into the right-wing Republican smear hysteria about this guy.

After all is said and done, both Obama and McCain are pretty moderate middle-of-the-road politicians. Obama is Hitler as much as McCain is a pregnant Martian. Do you folks believe everything you read in the National Enquirer?

Yidden in golus have always wisely supported politicians of all stripes. Sure, vote for one or the other, but don’t buy into idiotic claims about one of two people who will shortly be the most powerful person in the world! Burning bridges like this is incredibly stupid (not to mention a total lack of bitachon and plain old seichel).
