“My mother is looking forward to her birthday and for many years to come,” the mayor said yesterday.
“She knows what is going on in the world, she reads a lot, she goes out a lot and the only thing that sometimes annoys me is she doesn’t always put her hearing aid in,” he said.
Mother Bloomberg will mark the day with a quiet lunch near her Medford, Mass., home with her family, including the mayor and his sister, Marjorie Tiven.
The mayor credited his mom’s optimistic side for her long life. “She always has a bright side of things to look at. She doesn’t stop whenever there is a problem. She says, ‘Okay, here is the problem. Let’s just do it,'” Bloomberg said.
His mother, who now uses e-mail and carries a cell phone, recalls when electricity first came into her home, and when the first car drove up in the neighborhood, he said.
“Hopefully, she’ll see a lot more changes,” he said.

I wonder what zchus she has to reach this age
Healthy Mayor
This may be a bit of a stretch however this could have impact to Mayor Bloomberg directly. Now that we know that is mother is 100 years old that means that his family has longevity as does mine. As the city looks to reelect him since he changed the rule it would be good to know that we have a mayor that the chances of him staying healthy and alive are very high
This was similar to the fact that John McCain also had a living mother. While people were complaining about the fact that he was already 72 his living should have been some conciliation. This is surely a mile stone of reaching 100 years of age. As Pirkei Avos writes that at the age of 100 a person becomes official “oiver batel “. Although that could mean that the world has little impact on him or her.
Mazol Tov! Mazol Tov! And More Happy And Healthy years with loads of Nachas, (btw a 100yo using e-mail etc, doesn’t make sense to me…!!!)
