Chicago, IL – Barely a month after being sworn in as a U.S. Senator, Roland Burris is being called on to resign by the Chicago Tribune and some of his fellow Democrats.

After claiming, under oath, that there was no quid pro quo with former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Burris admitted Tuesday that he had tried to raise money for Blagojevich before the now-impeached governor appointed him to fill President Obama’s vacant Senate seat. This revelation followed others, in an affidavit made public over the weekend, about Burris’ contact with Blagojevich that cast doubts on the veracity of his testimony before the Illinois House impeachment panel and have opened him up to potential expulsion from the Senate.
The calls for Burris’ resignation are not limited to Illinois. The Washington Post called on Burris to step down in an editorial headlined “Buy-Buy, Mr. Burris” published in Wednesday’s paper:
What is it about Illinois that they cannot find an honest politican to send to Washington….these guys make the jokers in EY look honest.
It’s unreal with those Chicago crooks.
Get this dirt out of our government. Enough already!
I somehow have a sneaky suspicion that this info was already known to many top people but they kept it under the rugs until after Friday nights Senate vote on the Stimulus bill. Without his vote, the bill wouldn’t of passed the Senate.
Is it the air in Illinois that makes them all think every way but straight??
Balgo is a genius… First he appoints a black guy and makes the old white Democrats look like racists. Then Harry Reid promised no one appointed by Blago would be seated.
Well, that was until he knew he would have 60 votes on the pork bill. Remember, Ted Kennedy didn’t vote and the Coleman/Franken race is still going on. Now that Harry got his votes, everyone is so righteous and they are calling for Burris to step down. Where were these people months ago?
Plus, I think there’s more dirt on those tapes. Wait until Blago has the last laugh and throws everyone under the bus – Rahmbo, Nobama, etc.
president obama surrounded himself with all of these HONEST people! A person is the company he keeps!!!
Same ol same ol when it comes to Chicago politians!
Had he stepped down, it would have had no impact on the Senate vote. The Senate vote was a cloture vote (to end debate). Had Burris resigned, there would be 98 Senators instead of 99, and the number of votes required for cloture would have been 59 instead of 60.
So put the conspiracy theories aside; Burris was a non-issue as far as the stimulus bill.
This is an expression of the dominance of the Erev Rav in Illinois.
Hmmmm…. now I understand why obama was rushing to sign this bill, cu’z he’s afraid (or rather knows) that once blago will get a chance to speak and bring evidence to court, blago will have enough evidence against rahmbo and OBAMA that he might need to resign from the presidency and face charges, so he figured and least he will be in history for passing this bill.
This is also the reason why harry reid and his gangsters democrats didn’t call for brasso to resign till yesterday cu’z they need it him to get 60 votes, now that this bill is signed they can start cleaning him out.
Now, let’s just hope blago will have enough time in court and enough evidence to bring down obama, rahm, and the rest of this….
Maybe Burris can get a job in the Obama Administration. He fits in very well with all the other tax cheats this useless President has surrounded himself with, and how about Rahm Emanuel who allegedly was given rent free accommodations (Is there some tax cheating there too???). Why don’t we just demand that Hussein Obama and his cadre of ctrooks just pack their bags and head back to Chicago where they would feel right at home.
I met Burris 29 years ago. I thought he was a —– then and an even bigger one now.
