Tolls are set to rise by 10% at 3 a.m. Sunday on the nine crossings controlled by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
They include the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge – formerly the Triborough Bridge – the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Queens Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery tunnels.
The toll amounts vary by crossing, type of vehicle and whether a driver has an E-ZPass or other discount. Cash rates will be as high as $11 for passenger cars on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. That toll, now $10, is imposed in only one direction.
While its never good to have to pay more money to drive, the funds from these tolls are going to subsidize mass transit so its going to a good cause. Some portion of these funds also pay for bridge repair and maitainance which is long overdue and underfunded.
chutzpa……….
why do cars that pay there own gas have subsidize mass transit
Great
Just in time for visiting day!
Baruch Hashem, I don’t live in NYC!
There is no such a thing as global warming, and it’s nothing but crock-science. NYC just had the coolest June on record!! The temperatures globally are slowly getting colder not rising. There is no evidence to support any of the green-house gas theories, and people are creating a false sense of urgency.
Good! Raising tolls makes sure that everybody shares into the governments expense even those who are getting paid in cash. If they wouldn’t raise the tolls they would have had to raise my income tax, which is already approximately 25-30% of my wages. Higher state tolls and fees is a smart way to force those cheaters to share in raising revenue for the government.
