New York City – You’d think cellphone dead zones wouldn’t be a problem for Mayor Bloomberg, who travels at all times with all sorts of sophisticated communications gear.

    But it is.

“I keep losing calls,” the mayor disclosed yesterday, responding to a question at a press conference in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. “It’s really bad in this area.”

The mayor said he has called the president of AT&T “repeatedly” to complain, and mentioned the issue to the president of Verizon, whom he described as “an old friend.”

“We are becoming more and more dependent on cell service and I think it is physically dangerous in this day and age when you don’t have good cell service. God forbid you need to call 911 in an emergency,” the mayor said.

this is the only way we have something fixed, when the rich mayor himself has a problem with something.
let’s see if he will do anything about it.

However did we do for years without cell phone service? Oh yeah…there were these things called pay phones on every corner…

    It depends on the service.

In NYC Verizon has consistently the best coverage.
If you’ve got T-Mobile you’re out of luck in a lot of places.
AT&T and Sprint are pretty good now also, but not quite as reliable as Verizon overall, but there are places where they work and Verizon doesn’t.

In Lakewood don’t even think of T-Mobile. Verizon also isn’t very good.

Maybe its time to get RID of ALL cell phone towers and rely on satellites as they have been doing in most other countries for years now. The cellphone system (like many other services) in the USA is antiquated and need to be updated ASAP.
The only problem is who will pay for it!

Dear Mr. Bloomberg,I am requesting as you proceed with your campaign and your list of important things to take care of,you will make one of your priority agenda items the restructuring of the social service department, and serious skills development of the case workers in dealing with clients.People who go to these centers do so because they need help.It is very frustrating and unkind to persons sitting in the center from morning or early afternoon, and at 7pm. in the evening you call them and reschedule for the next day. They return the next day and you sit and wait until it is time for them to go to lunch, all of this time you do not even want to go to the bathroom for fear that your name will be called as soon as you leave. If you leave and your name is called you are then told you have to start all over again. even the sanest person would become upset. You have a turn off notice for all your utilities, your rent is sevsral months behind, you have no food but you are told no emergency food stamps will be issued to you.because as far as this worker is concerned you were issued food stamps. You ask the worker to check your card and you are told she has no need to do so,because as far as she is concerned the stamps were issued so that is the end of that so just return the next day.In the final analysis I became angry spoke very loudly and was told Iwas disrupting the workers and that will not get me serviced,so I will have to start all over again.I feel as though I wa singled out because i got loud when I asked to speak to the supervisor and was told she was in A meeting and was not coming out. There are persons who sit in those centers with medical conditions they need to take their medication, people sit there hungry with no money for food but because you need help you sit there and take the abuse. If no one needed help there would be no centers and many of those workers who sit there looking down their noses and treating people as though they are less than human, would not be in those jobs.It is time for a change and improvement in all of the social service centers. All workers who treat people as though they are less than human need to understand the money is not theirs and is not coming out of their pocket. They are in the business of SERVICE and they need to SERVE WELL and RESPECTFULLY SO. I am still without food and all my bills are still past due.I AM A HUMAN BEING. I hope your utmost attention will be given to this matter. All of us need to be sensitive to each others needs. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
