Monsey, NY – The first orthodox female cop from Rockland county Baile Glauber has filed a discrimination complaint against the Ramapo Police Department and town officials.

According to The Journal News Baile is contending she has been mistreated because of her religious beliefs since her opening interview for the nomination in February 2008, before the Police Academy training.
Ramapo strongly disputes her allegations and will file a response by Sept. 3 with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Town Attorney Michael Klein said.
Glauber who grew up in the Satmar Hasidic Jewish community was the first in the U.S. to graduate from the police academy to join the Ramapo Police Dept.
Glauber has not done much police work as she has yet to complete her field training to ride solo as an officer and her probation – and future as an officer – comes up for review in February.
She injured her ankle in the Police Academy, took time off from the physical training and came back to pass the physical regiment.
She’s been on desk duty for months with an ankle and non-work-related injury, while she has seen doctors.
kol hakavod
Since she is/was married (as a child) and is Orthodox…. she must not expose any part of her hair.
Can a women with a sheitle on a Windy Day run in hot pursuit of a criminal without her sheitel flying off or her slowing down to hold on to her sheitel from blowing off?
I once heard that hatzolah had never allowed women as Hatzolah members for several reasons.
One (of many) reason(s) is because when a Hotzolah call is issued the respondent is expected to run as quickly as he can “as is” (even if in pajamas) and that could slow down women for Tznius reasons and or because women are always very self conscious about their looks and so would not jump out of bed to run outside, without first fixing her sheitel to look “beautiful” and perhaps other hachones of makeup etc.
Men don’t care that much how they look and can jump out of bed and 1 second later be in the ambulance.
A women would never dare dart outside, before checking “how she looks”, first.
Thank you for your much-needed and well thought out comment.
Hatzlacha to her in this tough time.
If she has a severe ankle injury it is doubtful that she would be able to perform a foot chase.
Hatzolahs of North Jersey and New Square have female volunteers.
I can’t imagine that there’s no halachic problem with pulling over and filing police reports on Yidden, and especially in a place like Monsey, where odds are anyone pulled over is a Yid, how could one be a cop?
She should have NEVER been hired in the first place, that of course would have been discrimination. So they did hire her and she cannot fulfill the duties of a Police Officer. She should be fired, that could be discrimination as well. This is a nowin situation with her. All the non Jewish Police Officers can also sue because they are not being treated the same as she is. How many Police Officers cannot be with their families on Christmas or Easter, Are they given the same time off? There would be noone on Patrol. If you cannot fulfill ALL the duties of a Police Officer which are clearly stated before, you should NOT apply.
When there is a war in Israel Orthodox soldiers still work on the sabbath so does Magen David, why can’t the orthodox do the same here?
Iam a retired NYPD Police Officer, Jewish and had a gunshot to my ankly and I still worked. I begged not to retire. This girl just wants an easy payout from a city, no more, no less.
BH, the diversity in some responses and the seeming lack of seichel is amazing.
1, Obviously she can now run. She did have an ankle injury but she came back and passed the physical test.
2, I am sure she could respond as fast as any male cop or hatzoloh member.
3, I grew up as hatzoloh was starting in flatbush. I was turned down because I was a single young male. They did accept an untrained person to drive the bus, 10 days after he got his drivers license. If speed and safety were considerations they sure blewit.
Why would she want to serve that community; she must be insane. Can you imagine every third Hassid harassing her or calling her a shiktsa or a kapo because she has given them a ticket? Lots of luck to her because this career is not easy with types of people you have to deal with every day.
Stop sticking up for this bum who caused her family so much heartache. The least she could do is go join the force in some far away community, not so close to her parents………
Your comment got me cracking up – I assume you were joking……….. a woman would never dare leave her house without looking how she looks? riiggghhhttt suuureee – u sould as if you are coming right out of the 1500’s. A woman hears that a person needs her help and she will FIRST put on her makeup before she goes out to help ……… are u freeken insane??? do u realize how stupid you sound?
gavald!!! we blow shofer already let’s hope she will do tsiva, kol kvidu bas malac pnimu, its a shame for klal yisroel
I like the idea of woman officers – and a jewish one at that – how refreshing! the article was a bit vague – dont see what the complaints are – is it that she is still at desk duty? is her ankle better and so wants to go out into the field?
are there really orthodox rabanim that hold that a divorced woman does not need to keep her hair covered? does someone have more info on who…………this is a refreshing insight – glad there is this opinion but curious to know who backs it
Hey I have no problom with woman or Jewish officers but give me a break this lady might have been orthodox but she ain’t and hasent been frum at all in a long time let’s get the facts now she can do what she wants but she can’t claim she is orthodox when she obviesly isent that at all
Good luck to her, but I don’t think she’ll win. At least they gave her a desk job that didn’t make her work on Shabbos. I didn’t get any job offer at all because I wouldn’t work on Shabbos.
All I can say is , hashem, please help this midguided girl I have a feeling that many in the community have tried.hashiveni hashem venoshevo…
She is a living Chilul Hashem I wish she gets out of the public light spot
I happen to know this fine young lady who has sworn to protect and serve. She happens to be an amazing mother and a true reliable friend. Everybody goes through trials and tribulations in their lives. Whether she is frum or not is between her and god (bain udom l’makom) as for why she joined this department you tell me starting in the NYPD at 35k or Ramapo pd at 67k you do the math, Ramapo also only acceppts test scores in the 90 and above percentile in the nypd 65 is passing.
This is a self made woman who got her education on her own, you dont pass the state and county test in the 90 percentile with heimshe girls education.
Anyone frum especially frum-female who wants to be treated as they deserve should work in a frum environment. Otherwise they are sure to reap the expected inevitable outcome.
99.99 of all females in the military (and even stam goyishe workforce), all experience some sort of Sexual Harassment and often far, far worse than that.
It’s a fact that all females who enter the field know this fact.
If they don’t know this fact, they have to go back to kindergarten because any child who does an Internet search knows, that virtually all females cadets, in the military and police academy and later on (on the job) are ALL affected and so anyone who enters this field, (especially as a female) we already know “how frum” they were because although it is 100% illegal yet it is still 100% to be expected.
It’s a FACT that it always does happen.
Same is with any frum person working in a Goyish environment will be affected as per the Goyishe (Pritzus’dik culture expects it to be the “norm” and also discriminated against as yid, never mind frum.
