Washington – Famed lifelong outreach activist Rabbi Yitzchok Dovid Grossman of Migdal HaEmek, Israel, also known as the “Disco Rabbi“, founder of the Migdal Ohr network, has now earned a curious but telling distinction: Becoming the first Charedi Jew to be honored by the Caring Institute, an internationally prestigious organization whose Chairman is former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and presidential candidate Bob Dole.

According to the Institute’s press release, “Five remarkable adults and five youths will be honored” at an October 13 ceremony in Los Angeles. VIN has not yet learned if Rabbi Grossman will personally attend.
The Institute’s 2009 Awards literature bills Rabbi Grossman thusly: “Beginning 35 years ago, Rabbi Grossman began caring for boys from broken homes. As of today, he has built and runs a campus with 18 schools and 7 day care centers that cares for and educates some 7,000 underprivileged young people each day. Known as the ‘Father Teresa’ of Israel, he was twice offered the post of Chief Rabbi in Israel, a post he declined in favor of continuing to help the thousands of young people who need him.”
Note: Grossman is the uncle of Rivka Holtzberg who was murdered in the November 2008 Chabad Mumbai attacks.
