State police say off-duty Trooper Yisroel Kaplan was outside a business in Callicoon in Sullivan County last weekend when a man driving a Mercedes Benz pulled into the parking lot to ask for directions.
Troopers say as Kaplan was speaking to the driver he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He also saw an open beer between the legs of the front seat passenger.
After the car pulled away, Kaplan phoned an on-duty trooper and the vehicle was pulled over.
Police say the three Connecticut men in the car were charged with drug possession after troopers found marijuana in the vehicle.
All three were issued appearance tickets to return to court at a later date.
Good work Trooper Kaplan!
Congrats Charlie. Keep it up!
“Charlie” Kaplan is a NYS based in Liberty barracks.
I know what marijuana smells like from walking in the streets of Brooklyn (not by frum people) by the time you’re an adult it’s not so shocking to know the smell of marijuana even if you’re frum.
Rabbi Kolakowski from Virginia (mentioned a few weeks ago) is from Callicoon
Why is this in the news? Oh, because the trooper is Jewish. So an off duty police officer did something that he normally does when on duty. Wow
what a party pooper the state trooper is. Let the people have their medicine.
I heard he’s a great grandson of reb yeruchim levovitz and he lives in monsey
It’s nice to have a Kiddush Hashem among all of the negative news these days.
And what exactly is wrong with smoking marijuana? It is not addictive and never leads to violence. Plus, marijuana smokers contribute to our economy by buying copious ammounts of munchies. The police are wasting resourses on arresting people who are just minding their own buisness and not hurting anyone.
i am proud of what trooper kaplan did, busting the bad guys. where he lives or descends from is not pertinent.
those who want to legalize pot use should take their arguments to a different forum, namely, try to change the law. until then, respect the law and the troops!
