While that may not sound interesting to those outside the region – bear in mind the animal’s meat is forbidden to religious Jews and Muslims.
More than that, it is also taboo in broader Israeli society.
The majority of Israelis may be secular, but pork is rarely mentioned in the Israeli media, and almost never shown on television.
It is legal to eat it, bit in restaurants where it is available it is always referred to in code – as “white meat.”
Whatever the sensitivities surrounding pork, Eli Landau is undaunted.
He is launching “The White Book for the New Year.”
Needless to say, he is paying for its publication himself, unable to find an Israeli publisher willing to take it on
3 simanim beuma zu. bayshanim. we must check his yichus
Giving me a heart attack!
Cardioligist? People should BYPASS his book.
I can’t understand why he has to mention “isreali” cardioligist , isn’t he writing the chazir book because he doesn’t want to have any connection to the jewish nation, for shame!
maybe the good doctor has a colleague whom can perform brain surgery on him.
This is really stupid.
Guess he could not make it as a cardiologist!
This is what happens in a country where they have mandatory retirement. He’s bored with himself!
Yecch! Aside from being assur for us, it is very unhealthy and shouldn’t even be considered food. Pigs are great garbage disposals, nothing more.
And while “Most Israelis are secular” you will not catch a Sephardi eating “white meat.” Most Sephardim who call themselves secular and may violate Shabbat with recreational activities, will keep kosher and some other aspects of Shabbat like not lighting fire. There is a respect for tradition. We just moved to Teveria and our little building has a Sephardi family who are “black,” a totally secular extended, Sephardi family, an Ashkenazi religious family and we who are Sephardi, knit kippah. We all get along and the secular family is respectful to not disturb our Shabbat.
Is this guy doing this as a stunt… is he a moron? or what?
by the way, most Israelis may not be pork-eaters, but quite a few are. i’ve seen people purchase pork in Russian food stores, with no trace of shame on their faces; and even have been treated to a Thai dinner including ‘wheat meat’ by my schoolmate from back in Ukraine. mind you, the guy is an IDF veteran and an ardent Israeli and Jewish patriot
Chazal tell us that the reason why it is called chazer is because it will be returned to become kosher. We all know moshiach is coming very soon. But how will we know how to cook the chazer? We need recipies and it’s a great idea to come out with a cookbook, as some would say: NOW!
Maybe he is an invasive cardiologist trying to make business for other cardiologist who make coronary artery grafts. Pig meat is high in cholesterol
Don’t understand what the noise is all about ! What is eating pork any different then the rest of the 613 mitsvois that they totally disobey!
Selling such a book in Israel; hopefully, he doesn’t make a prutah on it and the whole deal falls through. What a disgraceful thing to do.
