New York – TV news anchors are grappling with a New Year’s problem — how do they say “2010”?

Is it “two thousand ten” or “twenty ten”?
If you speak on TV for a living, it’s not a small issue, says NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan.
“Anybody who’s on the air this week will have to figure out how to react to the number 2010,” he wrote on his blog just before the ball dropped in Times Square.
No new policy memos have been issued by his bosses, he says, and other anchors he’s been listening to all week have been saying it both ways.
Kiernan, who does the popular “In the Papers” feature, says he’s opting for “twenty ten.”
“As my interim reminder, I changed 2010 to ’20-10′ in broadcast copy” that he reads off the teleprompter, he wrote.
“I’m betting . . . a month from now ‘twenty ten’ will be comfortably routine,” he says.
I say twenty-ten, even though its 5770.
In 1999 we said 19-99, NOT one thousand nine hundred and ninty nine.
Why should this be any different?
It is 20-10.
zei huben nisht kein besere daagis!
B”H people have no bigger dages
Twenty ten is 3 syllables and two thousand ten is 4 so twenty ten will probably be the accepted way, at least for me.
I’m calling it 0 – 10
Why is it different than 1910? You don’t say nineteen hundred ten.
Virtually all people when referring to the year “1900” would say “nineteen-hundred”. However, when referring the subsequent years of that century (including those of the first decade) most people would use “nineteen…” and not “nineteen-hundred…” (and definitely not “one-thousand-nine hundred…”) as in “nineteen-oh-four” or “nineteen-thirty-five”.
For some reason, after the year 2000 (again, almost universally called “two-thousand”) most people called the subsequent years as “two-thousand…” (as in “two-thousand-one”, “two-thousand-five”, etc.).
If people were comfortable for the last nine years to use “two-thousand…” why would this year be any different and neccesitate a change?
Then again, there are more important things in life to worry about.
The better question is how do you say 2010 in short. I am wondering this and would like the readers input on this. Is it “oh ten” or simply “ten” how would YOU say 2010 in short?
I would sayt “ten”. Like oh-nine
bring a rayeh from 20-20 (im sure that will be the way in 10 years)

Boruch Hashem I have bigger problems to deal with.
what u say in 2020?
two thousnad…? or 2020?
why did you say 2009 tow thousand and nine. and now twenty ten. it should be tow thousand and ten
I would’ve thought just like we said till now 08 and 09 just say 10-ten for short. or as it has been refered to until now as in the yr 2-10 two ten. but in truth i wish dis would be my only big daageh, unfortunately life has more reality daages. May this new yr bring good gashmius wise hashpuos as many previous gedolim would wish.
y2k problem
in proper (american) english the year dates with numerals only up to 20 (ve’lo ad bi’chlal) are expressed as “nineteen” and then a number (19-54, 19-99). but at 2000 and up it should be spelled out as “two thousand -one” etc, etc. i know it’s easier to say 20-10, but noone ever said “twenty o’seven” etc…
why dont they call it tzvuntzik- tzein??????????
