The Israeli foundation that administers the Western Wall has launched an iPhone application that streams live from the site around the clock — except on the Jewish Sabbath and holidays, when transmissions are forbidden by Jewish law.

The application allows users to send e-mails to be placed in the crevices of the old wall, a Jewish custom.

It also includes a compass that allows users to pray in the direction of Jerusalem, another Jewish practice.

Michal Ophir of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation says the application “brings the Western Wall to every Jew in the world because it is the heart of the Jewish people.” The wall is a remnant of the biblical Jewish Temple complex.

What a dumb article. Describing an app without giving its name.

The emphasis should ALWAYS be on the Har HaBayit (Temple Mount) and not on the Kotel. Ultimately, we pray towards the Kodesh HaKodoshim. THAT is Judaism’s holiest prayer site, not the Kotel. We seem to have lost sight of the “Ikar” and grasped the “tafel” and this is only reinforces the world’s claim that the Har HaBayit does not belong to the Jewish people. Our choice of emphasis DOES matter!
