Brooklyn, NY – Greenfield Gets Assurances From Top City Officials That Help Is Finally On The Way

    36

Brooklyn, NY – Councilman David Greenfield has just received assurances from top City officials that more resources are being sent immediately to Boro Park, Midwood and Bensonhurst to try to ensure that every side street is plowed at least once by noon tomorrow. Greenfield, who has pressured the Mayor’s office, the Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Sanitation since Monday, is making progress in his battle to clear the streets of Southern Brooklyn. Those officials, however, did ask Greenfield to relay that only streets that are not blocked by vehicles can be accessed by plows. As a result, Greenfield is asking those who were forced to park their cars illegally to be sure that they are not blocking the entrances or exits to streets.

“It is reprehensible that it has taken almost 72 hours since the snowstorm ended to get our streets cleared,” said Greenfield. “I have worked tirelessly since Sunday night to bring some normalcy back to our community and I take these top officials at their word that by tomorrow afternoon the situation in our community will be vastly improved. Once that is accomplished and every single street in our community is cleared, I will then do everything in my power to get to the bottom of what exactly went wrong. We rely on the Mayor, as the person who runs this city, to ensure our safety and provide basic services. Clearly, there was a catastrophic breakdown that led to what can only be described as a serious betrayal of the public trust.”

Greenfield has taken to criticizing Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as well as other top members of the administration and agency commissioners, for what he has called the “wholesale failure of government to provide basic services to its taxpayers.” Greenfield’s office, which remained fully staffed throughout the snow crisis and open regular hours, took thousands of phone calls from angry constituents who were exasperated by the Mayor’s failure to ensure that the streets of Southern Brooklyn were plowed.

“I criticized the Mayor because I could not simply stand idly by while Manhattan was plowed and we in Brooklyn were left to fend for ourselves,” Greenfield explained. “I can assure you, the consequences of the city’s inaction have been dire: homebound seniors were unable to get the meals they rely on, first responders were unable to reach critical patients in a timely manner and many residents have lost several days of earnings. It is simply unacceptable that in the year 2010 we are seeing the same failures that befell Mayor Lindsay’s administration in 1969. We will continue to do whatever is necessary to hold the Mayor and his administration accountable,” Greenfield concluded.

Tomorrow is kind of late. Around 6 pm traffic was at a complete standstill for almost an hour on Ditmas Ave between Ocean Pkwy and McDonald because the Avenue was unplowed with only one of the lanes drivable and every side street off the Avenue was blocked by stuck cars. I have never seen such a disaster with blockages making any emergency vehicle unable to pass.

What has Greenfeld received “a farfolteh aye” (a rotten egg). Neither he nor Hikind got anything from City Hall for 4 days. Now he wants to be in the papers to be able to say that he arranged to have something done. Come on. Don’t treat us like little babies. Wow, if not for Greenfeld no plowing would have been done. Everyone knows that eventually they will get to the outer boros. Don’t take credit where its not due

WOW we are already the last anyway, but thank you David for your efford.

Brilliant press release!!! Aside from coming out the knight in shining armor, Greenfield is doing a masterful job of playing both sides against each other.

He can’t publicly blast the union because they’ll be here longer than Bloomberg; he has no need to put himself on paper as a union-foe. Yet, the more NYC politicians and residents ratchet up the blame-Bloomberg campaign, for what is obviously a deliberate union slowdown, the more pain Bloomberg will exact on those who are responsible.

Even if most of the city has no idea what’s happening behind closed doors, you can be sure the union is going to pay for making the Mayor look like a fool.

It seems that only we are kvetching. We have to be carefull even when right not to be so loud, maybe we should look into buying a couple of plows that can go on a suburban and mochal tovos.

Help may be on the way, but we have not been cleaned yet, and I do not expect to be cleaned this year as usual!! Why bother paying taxes if you have to do the work yourself??

R’ Duvid we are smarter than this…. Bloomy promised us Monday at a news confrence that within 24 hrs every street would be clean. This morning he said by 7 pm every street would be clean. Now it’s tomorrow noon… Has anyone seen one truck?? One thing I could promise that nothing will change by tomorrow… hopefully lots of sun over the next few days and it will melt away

We all made Shulem with the matzav no BS please. We know you probably tried hard and appreciate it but please don’t give us false hopes

I have heard that Greenfield received “ASSURANCES” …
that all the streets of B.P., will all be clean, by June,
when it will all be melted by then 🙂

After several days on doing nothing, of course eventually they can get around to cleaning Brooklyn too, eventually…. why not?

Of course, FIRST the Bike Lanes on Ocean Parway must be cleaned, but later, why not clear the real streets to?

Why not clean Brooklyn several days later, as log as everyone is finished drinking coffee and eating donuts and they have nothing else to do and everyone is just too bored?

If Greenfield waits long enough, why shouldn’t the city clean Brooklyn, AFTER they have nothing else to do, several days later?

I’m with the “buy our own plows” dude. Attach them to Suburbans (G-d knows, there is no lack of these in the frum communities) and plow your way out of this mess. Me, I live in the Sunshine State and don’t need to worry about trivial things like blizzards 🙂

If a man comes to me and says “I havn’t had rain in days and my crops are dying…” sure it looks good if I rant on how awful it is that you don’t have rain… and if we wait long enough rain will come and I will claim all along it was I who did it.

There’s a lot of ranting and not enough doing. Of course if you wait long enough help will come, but this elected official making it sound like he did it all is a joke.

Instead let him use the millions he made with his previous not-for-profit and help his constituents by renting plows for them and showing them how the city should be run! Maybe then I would be able to get my car out of the driveway… I wish all the hot air from these kvetches would melt the snow

The blizzard of December 26, 2010 (Bloomberg’s Blizzard), will be his Waterloo. He will never, but never, be reelected for a fourth term in 2013 (in case he was thinking of running). He is through politically. About 15 years ago, there was a Mayor in Chicago, who also lost his bid for reelection, because of his lackluster efforts in having the streets cleared of snow. On the other hand, the Mayor of Newark, N.J., Corey Booker is indeed a mentsch. In addition to him personally shoveling snow, he also personally assisted residents who needed help, by dispatching help to their homes. Can anybody imagine Bloomberg shoveling snow?

The biggest chutzpah is yet to come. The city will reinstate Alternate Side Street Cleaning while the snow is still piled high (claiming that they will clear the snow from the sides of the street). The snow plows to clear the snow will again not show up. Rest assured, the ticket writers will.

42nd and 43rd street between 12 and 13th Ave in BP has not heard or seen a plow since the beginning of this storm!

Stop blaming the mayor. It was a brutal snowstorm, Manhattan should be cleared first, not because they are ‘richer’ but because so many people work in Manhattan. Many people from the outer boroughs work in Manhattan! It was a day late response. Thats it. Nothing ‘catastrophic’ happened. Stop complaining. Come back to reality David.

I’m not sure if you can but you should look into a recall election against his majesty. How could you New Yorkers allow him to circumvent the system to get by the term limits that the citizens of NY voted for is one question. Then to vote for him after such a purely egotistical move boggles the mind. I hate to say that you got what you deserved by voting for such an elitist, far left anti-Torah individual but do something about it, recall him. Show he that he’s supposed to represent you. He seems to have forgotten that.

ON EAST 12TH STREET BETWEEN AVENUE I AND THE DEAD END only the first half of the block was “plowed” the rest in like a war zone. Help please!!!!!!!!!!!

To those of you who complain about David Greenfield…at least you have someone on your team! In Crown Heights we have NOBODY.

You have no idea how bad it is here. it’s at least as bad as BP, probably worse because SOME plows got to you. My street…still not touched.

If Moron Mike gives me a ticket because I can’t move my car for alternate side I’ll sue him.

Due to the loss of ticket revenues. Bloomberg will be investing In snowmobiles for all the metermaids. According to the mayors office they hope to have the metermaids ready for the next billzard.

A dozen nypd tow trucks have been cruising boro park for the past hour w/ their lights flashing. It looks like a pr effort by city hall to appease the lack of action. We need plows not tows().
