The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is increasing fares on Thursday.
A fare increase of almost 17 percent is slated for the monthly unlimited Metrocards, adding $15 to the current price of $89. Other fare classes will also increase, although not as much. The $2.25 one-way subway and bus fare will stay the same except for single-ride tickets, which will rise to $2.50.
Those increases follow hikes in 2008 and 2009. And another is planned for 2013. Tolls are also going up at the MTA’s bridges and tunnels.
The fare increase comes in the same week as the transit system is working toward getting back to normal after a major storm cause huge disruptions.
We have no service now on the Brighton Beach Lines of the Q and B trains for 3 days, how about a rebate instead of an increase!
Since bloomberg came to office it constant goes up .
As long he pays for our politicians ,he can get away with all ,
Its the pizza law: the ride on the subway should not cost less than one slice of pizza (without toppings)
This article is misleading because although the price of a signle ride will remain at $2.25 the 15% discount most people enjoyed when refilling their metro card will go down to 7% as of tomorrow. People should refill their cards today to the maximum amount to take advantage of the last day to get the 15% saving.
