Newark, NJ – Cory Booker: The Mayor of Twitter and Superhero of the Blizzard

    8

Newark mayor Cory Booker has won high marks for his hands-on response to the blizzard, notably across micro-blogging website Twitter. Newark, NJ – If you’re a mayor of a northeastern U.S. city, you probably despise Cory Booker right now, because the tweeting mayor of Newark, N.J., is now a social-media superhero, able to move towering snowbanks in a single push — or by sending the shovels and plows your way.

After a blizzard started blanketing the Northeast on Dec. 26, an event that earned the Twitter hashtag #snowpocalypse, Booker turned the microblogging site into a public-service tool. Residents of the city, which has a population of around 280,000, swarmed Booker’s account (@CoryBooker) with requests for help, and the mayor responded. He and his staff have bounced around Newark shoveling streets and sending plows to areas where residents said they were still snowed in. “Just doug [sic] a car out on Springfield Ave and broke the cardinal rule: ‘Lift with your Knees!!’ I think I left part of my back back there,” he reported in one message. One person let Booker know, via Twitter, that the snowy streets were preventing his sister from buying diapers. About an hour later, Booker was at the sister’s door, diapers in hand.

yes, he is friends with Boteach. I met him at Chabad of Newark years ago. He is an amazing speaker and he has done literal wonders for that city. People do not like him because they consider him “holier than thou” with his extreme ways of doing things: helping shovel during blizzards, living in public housing project to help the city and learn its problems, giving his personal computer to police dept when he learned they did not have money for it, working with Gov Christie to get things done. Corrupt and lazy pols hate him here in NJ. He is a great friend of the Jewish people and a great mayor.

I have met and dealt with Cory Booker on two occasions. This man is a hero. From the way he got himself elected to the way he addresses the city’s problems head on at great personal sacrifice, he is someone to be admired.

My question is, why the heck he needed all this tzuris. The troubles with Newark seem insurmountable. He is a talented man, and he is only setting himself up for failure.

In any case, I wish him and the people of Newark only the best of luck.

I’d vote Corey Booker for President in a heartbeat. He’s got character, guts, brains, and class. Wish I could say the same for most politicians today, not least of all, the ponderous choice we have for President.

Sounds like a great guy. He could teach Bloomberg a thing or two about being a mayor.
