New York – Mayor Bloomberg – who already called Obama’s omission of gun control in his speech last night “disappointing” – has more to say.

Bloomberg told reporters today that stopping illegal guns is a national issue, but the fact more hasn’t been done on the issue can’t be blamed on one person.

“[I]t’s not just the president, and it’s not just the Republicans and it’s not just the Democrats. All of Washington seems to be cowed by one group,” said Bloomberg, obviously referring to the National Rifle Association, who’ve clashed with him on this issue. Bloomberg – who didn’t mention the group by name – said this “one group” “tries to make it about the second amendment. It’s not about the second amendment.”

When asked what he wanted Obama to say about gun control last night, Bloomberg, said, “that he would take this on as a priority.”

Yeah Bloomberg, just imagine how many thousands of lives could have been saved without NY’s Sullivan Act a/k/a ‘criminal protection act’ and it’s “may issue” carry permits. I am SO glad I don’t live in NYC, I will never live in NYC, and don’t really even want to visit or even travel through NYC!

Yes, you are a real deep thinker Texas “chauchum”. “how many people etc. etc. etc.” -how many times must we hear this nonsense? Most people who are murdered have it happen when they are surprised by someone and are not in a position to defend themselves even f they had a gun. Also, I have yet to read where someone stepped in and saved someone because they had a gun. Sure didn’t happen in Tucson did it? More people walking around with guns means more people will be killed by guns. Figures you are fom Texas.

This unnamed “group” has the backing of the 39%-50% of the American public that owns guns. And that percentage estimate is conservative, especially since our current president has been the best thing to happen to gun sales: the year after the 2008 election was a difficult time for buying a gun, and the price of ammunition skyrocketed. Just because of supply [couldn’t ramp up fast enough] and demand [through the roof].

The response of the American public to the suspicion that the Arizona shooting might lead to calls for stricter gun control: another uptick in handgun sales.

His attitude on guns, among other things, will ensure that Bloomberg [constantly protected by gun-carrying bodyguards in private and public life] will never be President. Despite the best PR money can buy.

I’m supposed to accept NYC crime statistics after seeing stories of NYC cops intentionally under-reporting crimes?
And concerning Tucson, there WAS at least one armed civilian that was going to take down Loughner, fortunately Loughner’s gun failed before that became necessary.

Pay no atention to an elephant in the living room! Whatever the correlation between gun ownership and violent crime rates, and I am sure there is one, the most obvious reason for statistics cited in previous posts is that violent crime is almost exclusively comitted by black and hispanic males. New York is the whitest of all these large cities cited above, and getting whiter every year, thus the relatively small murder rate. New Orleans and Detroit and are the opposite extremes, and have murder rates comparable to Port-au-Prince and Nairobi.
