Opposition leader Tzipi Livni also paid a visit to Rabbi Lau. During the visit, she expressed her deep concern for latest clashes between hareidi-religious and secular Jews, and said that new leadership is required to shape the image of Israeli society.

Rabbi Lau called on Livni and the Knesset members to assist in spreading unconditional love and not towards spreading hate.

Real rabbis like R’ Lau and Yosef are not interested in sides. Just get on the bus and sit down and open a Sefer. If that doesn’t work for you, walk. Worst case, you’ll get home to your Taliban wife 20 minutes late.

#1 – Thank you for illustrating the real problem in charaidi society – the notion that one is either your idea of charaidi or one is a secular Jew.

News flash from the real world for you buddy boy – yours is not the only acceptable flavor of yiddishkeit. Wearing black is a life style, not a level of awe.

Frankly, some of you guys sound like teenage color war cheer leaders – black team good, white team bad, no need the think, so long as we win.

Another news flash for you – we’re in this mess together. No one wins unless we all win. If your brand of yiddishkeit drives away other yiddin we all lose, not just the lunatic “kano’im”.

Many years ago I had occasion to visit Belfast, in Northern Ireland, during the terrible sectarian “troubles” there. I stayed at the Europa Hotel, which got the very unenviable reputation of being the most bomb-damaged hotel in Europe.

As I came out of the hotel one morning, a man in a balaclava came up to me and asked me in that particularly gating Belfast accent, “Are you a Cat’lic or a Proddie [Protestant]?” I responded that I was neither, but rather a Jew.

“Ah yes,” he responded. “But are you a Cat’lic Jew or a Proddie Jew?”

I tell this story because that is what is happening in Yerushalayim and in Beit Shemesh these days: intolerance and – if people there are not very careful – a slow descent into civil war.

Boruch Dyan Emet…Blessed The True Judge.
As #5 said…”Rabbi Lau is as charedi as it gets.”…and it’s because he’s a genuine Zaddik, gedol & ben-Torah, like Hashem he loves all of Am Yisrael…ALL of Hashem’s precious Beni Yisrael come to pay their respects to Rabbi Lau when he sits shiva.
Charedi or Secular it makes NO difference to Hashem who is the only one who can judge people.
R’Lau may Hashem comfort you & bless with Health, Happiness & Peace till 120.
