One of the two Indian owners of the Hitler clothing store - Rajesh Shah poses in front of his shop in Ahmedabad on August 28, 2012. The owner of an Indian clothing store said August 29, 2012, that he would only change its name from "Hitler" if he was compensated for re-branding costs, amid a growing row over the new shop. The outlet, which sells Western men's wear, opened 10 days ago in Ahmedabad city in the western state of Gujarat with "Hitler" written in big letters over the front and with a Nazi swastika as the dot on the "i". AFP PHOTO / Sam PANTHAKY Ahmedabad, India – Despite an outcry from the 500-person Jewish community in Ahmedabad, Gujuarat, Rajesh Shah, who co-owns a men’s clothing store in the neighborhood named “Hitler”, has refused to change his store’s name, claiming he has already invested too much money in the branding of his business.

“None of the other people are complaining, only a few Jewish families. I have not hurt any sentiments of the majority Hindu community. If he did something in Germany, is that our concern?” Mr. Shah told the New York Times (http://nyti.ms/QXLRLo).

Mr. Shah contends that Hitler is a “good, catchy” name for his store, and said it adds to the mystique of his business and draws in curious costumers. “We have not written anything below the sign or on our cards to indicate what we sell to generate mystery. The customers who come in tell me they came in seeing the name,” he said.

He added that if the Jewish community is so offended by the store’s name, they should pay to re-name and market his business.

I think the swastika bothers me more than the name itself.

He should be made to rename his store “Pakistan”, or “Moslem”. I’m sure that the local Hindu community would love that.

Why should they repay to rebrand and market his business? He knew what he was doing!

He’s a heartless SOB, but he has a point. He presumably hasn’t broken any laws, and none of his customers are going to care.

Whats stopping people from going in front of the store with “Never Again” Signs every day?

What an idiot! Does he not know that Hitler would have killed him as well? After all he does not fit in with idea of the pure Arian race!

How about paintning “HINDU” on the storefront in yellow paint.

Sorry to say this, but its like some westerner opening a store in New York called Javed Iqbal and the local Indian / Pakistani community but no one else cares about the name.
As far as I know, Hitler YM”S never had anything to do with India, so the local people there dont have any strong feelings against it.
Would anyone care if a store opened in New York called Genghis Khan? For all I know there already one!

i heard on the news that this shop owner didn’t recognize the name hitler and knew nothing about him. Interesting that he used the swastika to dot his “i”, another thing he claimed to know nothing about.

To those fools saying that Hitler would’ve persecuted him as well: Start doing some serious reading. The Mufti was an honored guest in Berlin and Hitler was allied with Japan and Italy. In fact, many Indians are ‘Aryan’ as well if you read up on the term ‘Aryan’.
