Jerusalem – Tragedy struck in Modi’in Illit today as a four and a half year old boy was found dead after being accidentally left behind and locked in the “burning hot” car of his Talmud teacher for several hours. The boy’s family belongs to the Bayan Chassidic sect.

According to authorities, the boy’s teacher picked him up in the morning as usual. The teacher, who regularly drives his students to yeshiva, did not notice that the boy had fallen asleep during the trip and had not exited the vehicle when they arrived at the yeshiva.
It was not until after 1 PM that the teacher returned to his car and noticed the boy. He opened the car door, but the boy was unconscious. The teacher called for rescue services. Medical personnel, including United Hatzalah and Magen Dovid Adom, arrived on the scene and attempted to revive the boy who was not breathing and had no pulse. All attempts to save the boy failed, and a physician declared him dead. Police were then called to the scene. The boy’s parents and his teacher were taken to the police station. Police are investigating the teacher on suspicion of negligence.
A medic with United Hatzalah said, “Upon arrival on scene we saw a boy lying next to the vehicle. Passers-by told us the boy was left in the teacher’s car.”
BDE so sad.
Speechless!! Terrible tragedy!!
May the family be comforted amongst the mourners of tzion and only have simcha from now on.
Bd”e. So sad to hear. With all the high tech in our generation maybe there should be away of the car beeping if a baby of child is left by mistake.
May the family have nechama from this awful story!
This was indeed a truly terrible tragedy, and my sympathy goes to the poor distraught parents. May they know no more sorrow in their lives.
But there is something I do not understand about the report itself. Ms Alison C Willy tells us in her lead that the “four and a half year old boy was found dead after being accidentally left behind and locked in the “burning hot” car of his Talmud teacher”.
What boy learns Talmud at that tender age?
firstly, BD”E.
Secondly, suspicion of negligence? There is actually a question here?
Of course I condemn the teacher’s negligence, and yet I must recognize that he is human, and humans make mistakes. Humans are sometimes forgetful and absent-minded. Sometimes with more disastrous results than others.
Therefore, I actually also have Rachmonos on the teacher. His life is over. He will probably never be able to properly laugh again in his life.
Nor will he be able to face his family and friends without deep shame.
I wouldn’t be too surprised if he has to be put on suicide-watch.
If it was me, I would probably be tempted to jump off the Empire-state building…

My heart goes out thinking what the little boy went through. Screaming helplessly, thirsty and not being answered. Poor sweet child, brings tears to my eyes.
May Hashem give the family courage to endure such immense pain. Besires toives!
heartbreaking
I am surprised that a 4 year old child could not open the door himself. My two and three year old could unlock and open a car door. Such a sad story!!
