Chicago, IL – Report: Ehud Barak & Rahm Emanuel Meet Secretly To Discuss Israel-US Relations

Chicago, IL – A secret meeting between Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and former White House Chief of Staff and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel took place recently, according to a report in Ynet News (http://bit.ly/OfcQbc). The men met during Mr. Barak’s visit to the United States.

There is speculation that the two men got together to discuss the escalating tensions between the United States and Israel over Iran. Emanuel is still considered a close adviser to the president. Israeli officials suggested Barak is trying to paint himself as a reasonable alternative to Prime Minister Netanyahu in an effort to strengthen his personal ties with the Obama administration, even at the cost of Mr. Netanyahu’s relationship with President Obama.
Barak’s office declined to comment about the meeting.

It is unclear whether or not Prime Minister Netanyahu was made aware of the meeting.
