Yedioth Ahronoth (http://bit.ly/Xno5yL) is reporting that Bennett’s visit was merely exploratory as the Zionist leader continues his efforts to integrate Orthodox Jews into the mainstream.

“We are here to learn,” said Bennett. “I already know the world of religious Zionism; I don’t know the hared world.”

Bennett, who is in favor of the universal draft—an issue he shares with Yair Lapid and his Yesh Atid party—also advocates the status of Jewish faith.

“Studying Torah serves Israel interests, as much as settling in the Negev and the Galilee does,” Bennett told yeshiva students. But he went on to insist that serving in the IDF must be ‘incorporated into the lives of Orthodox J ews.’

“Things have changed,” said Bennett. “We have to find a way to do it.”

Debate over ‘equal share of the burden,’ coupled with the mandatory draft, not-surprisingly left many yeshiva students ambivalent towards Bennett’s appearance.

One student said he wants Bennett to realize that ‘everyone here is devoted to year round studies, and carries the burden as much as anyone else.’

Another added, “He wants equality? Not a problem. We can find room in this seminary for 10,000 more secular students.”

Is he intending to visit the more shtarke chareidim?

Also, he makes it like the Army is a religion that has to be followed, rather than something that could be done, could not be done, depending on the situation.

So exactly who is the “chareidi” that Bennett met with? The man in the knitted zionist yarmulkeh to his left in the picture? Isn’t it like Obama being interviewed by his lapdogs from NBC or CBS?
