Prices were compared between Gillette products at Super Pharm Ltd. in Israel, and Walgreens in the US and Boots in the UK. It was found that Israelis pay more.

As reported by Globes (bit.ly/1bjHhpk) examples of prices were provided for deodorant and aftershave. Gillette Power Bead deodorant costs $4.00 in the US at Walgreens, compared to NIS 37.40 at Super Pharm. That is a 150 percent increase. Gillette Splash aftershave costs £6.75 (NIS 39) at Boots in the UK compared to NIS 80 at Super Pharm.

A top retailer, who prefers to stay anonymous, says that prices in the Israeli market are markedly higher than in other markets. “Procter & Gamble has established itself in Israel and dominates categories, with brands such as Gillette and Alldays, so it therefore takes the liberty of charging higher prices compared with countries where there is stronger competition or where it is still fighting for market share.”

In a response, Procter & Gamble stated, “In Israel, the Gillette brand offers a wide portfolio of products in all categories, enabling consumers to benefit from basic through state-of-the-art products, across a range of offers at any given time. The prices mentioned in the article do not reflect the average price in Israel, and they certainly do not represent prices in sales by retail chains.”

Boycott all their products and you’ll see how fast they come down in price!

Gillette should not be selling any “Shaving razors” in Israel. The other items are overpriced in general. They do it because of the mentality of the common Israeli- buy American”.

Anybody who lives in Israel knows that this is common. Price gouging and price fixing is the rule in the Israeli marketplace. Worst, Israelis seem to lack any sense of consumerism. They spend the money since they feel there is no alternative. Israel needs consumer organizations and a Jewish “Ralph Nader”.

Where are the products made? surely that will make a difference in the price, as well as overheads, taxes etc. Looking at 1 brand at 1 store in each country is hardly conclusive evidence for anything. What about other brands & products – are they all exactly the same price in the UK, US & Israel? I highly doubt it.

On the other hand, it is known that many Israeli products (Tenuva cheeses, Osem) that are produced in Israel, actually are often cheaper in the US!

It’s ironic that here in the US, one can buy many Israeli products (Made in Israel) for considerably less than they sell for in the Israeli market even though they incur shipping charges, to the US!

The nice thing about Torah is that with my beard, I never buy any gilette products. Let it be an excise tax that must be paid by those in Israel who refuse to keep the Jewish Ways of Beards and General blessings. Right?
