New York – Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, Agudath Israel’s executive vice president, called out City Councilmember Elect Laurie Cumbo on recent comments regarding “knockout game” violence, and at the same time hopes the newly elected NYPD commissioner will do his best to protect the Jewish community.

In a press release published on Thursday, Zwiebel reiterated Cumbo’s comments linking the recent “knockout” attacks in Brooklyn with African-American resentment of Jews.

Zwiebel stated, “Such remarks, which almost appear to justify violent assault against Jewish people, underscore the urgent need for the NYPD to exercise special vigilance to ensure that Jewish New Yorkers can walk the streets safely without fear of being targeted by ‘resentful’ hoodlums.”

Today’s announcement of William Bratton as New York City’s next police commissioner was positively received by Agudath Israel of America, as Bratton has a record of accomplishment working with the Jewish community.

That track record, Zwiebel stated, gives the community a sense of safety in a environment where Jewish New Yorkers seem to be increasingly targeted for attack by individuals playing the “knockout game.”

AI should keep quiet. The council woman has a point. If you don’t realize that there is a lot of jealousy and income discrepancy between the jewish and black community, you are blind. Instead of assaulting her, we should be trying to address the real problems. Heaven forbid the problems we sweep under the carpet return in stronger force.

To Chad Gadya, Yes, there is jealousy. You are right about that. There is no other real problem. If you spend all your time doing the wrong things you achieve little in life. Even if you try in life but fail you have no right to assault. You have the right to feel jealousy or sad BUT NOT THE RIGHT TO ASSAULT.
Any attempt to explain this issue any further is encouraging illegal behavior and is probably criminal.

It’s not all about income disparity, but about disregard. They see that Jews are friendly with each other, but totally ignore them. Even if you live in the same building as Blacks and Hispanics, you might never even say good morning. There is absolutely no justification for the punching game, but we should still recognize what we do. Everyone can do a little bit to calm tension.

Chad gadya, you miss the point entirely. The problem was tat the councilwoman completely and conveniently ignored the main problem in the black community: breakdown of the family structure. Sure she mentions “government neglect”..but she fails to argue why the government Should be responsible for ensuring that people are civilized, even if they’re poor. That’s all you need to know about what she wrote…her agenda is one of poison.
