The New York Post (http://bit.ly/18IoeGM) reports that Tammy Schwartz-Strobel, 52, thought the call was a hoax and hung up after a few minutes.
The lottery official called back two more times, but Schwartz-Strobel said she let her answering machine pick up the calls. On the third ring, she ultimately agreed to give the caller’s phone number to her husband.
Dr. Alan Strobel, 53, an anesthesiologist from Jericho, bought the winning ticket drawn on Nov. 6
The caller was Mary Kay Derby, a director of Lotto prize payments. The couple ended up taking a lump sum payment of $3.9 million, which most of it they said will go to charity.
