Eyal Yitzhak Matas, who studies at the private religious academy Darchei Noam in Petah Tikva won first place in the contest. Yisrael Elgrabli, 17, of the Horev
Yeshiva in Jerusalem came in second.

The contest is held every year on Israel Independence Day. Thursday’s match consisted of 16 finalists from around the world. In the previous match, 67 contestants from 33 countries competed, included competitors from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Panama, Turkey, South Africa and Brazil.

The Ministry of Education said the contest is held to unite Jews around the world through the bible.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with the competitors earlier this week, and at the end of Thursday’s competition, urged them and Jews from around the world to make Aliyah to Israel.

“The Bible is the foundation of our lives. We would not exist without it,” Netanyahu emphasized. “It reflects our identity and our values, which grew in this Land.

    FYI:
Orthodoxy, by definition, can never really be “Modern”.
It’s ancient and holy (and priceless).

Those Tzitzis the precious boys are wearing are more than 3,300 years old!

And I have no doubt that these Contest-Winner say Birchas-Ha’Torah every day before commencing to learn the Tanach in which they are so proficient.
Just like their “Old-fashioned” ancestors did for thousands of years…..

Anyone who is intellectually honest knows that “modern” orthodox really means less observant. They choose which Mitzvos they keep and discard others,,,,
