Authorities say the chase started shortly before noon on Tuesday when two officers tried to stop a Nissan sedan in the Bronx.
Police say the driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit into neighboring Westchester County.
Investigators say the Nissan was heading north on the Saw Mill Parkway but began driving south in the northbound lanes before crashing into another car. The other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, 36-year-old Miguel Espinal was armed at the time he was shot at Tibbetts Brook Park by an NYPD officer, according to a report by The New York Times.
One person in the Nissan was arrested at the crash scene.
