The Daily News reported that lawyers for the two men, Joel and Aaron Israel, may avoid a possible trial if their lawyers can reach a mutually agreeable arrangement.
As previously reported on VIN News(http://bit.ly/2fhNZoK), the brothers were indicted on multiple charges, including unlawful eviction, last April, and are potentially facing up to 15 years in prison.
The two men who owned buildings in Williamsburg, Bushwick and Greenpoint, reportedly denied tenants access to their own apartments, whose protected rents ranged between $600 to $1,000. New tenants brought into the building paid market-rate rents, which were more than triple that amount.
Judge Danny Chun said that both sides are prepared to go to trial if a plea bargain arrangement cannot be arranged and adjourned the case until November 22nd.
Why are these money-grubbing characters being offered a deal? Let’s go to trial, and if they are convicted by a jury of Brooklyn residents, incarcerated according to the full extent of the law. Their lust for money has created a terrible chilul Ha-Shem.
