Washington – North Korea does not have the ability to strike the United States with “any degree of accuracy” and while its missiles have the range, they lack the necessary guidance capability, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General Paul Selva said on Tuesday.

“I … am not sanguine that the test on the Fourth of July demonstrates that they have the capacity to strike the United States with any degree of accuracy or reasonable confidence or success,” Selva said while appearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Earlier this month North Korea said it had conducted its first test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), and that it had mastered the technology to mount a nuclear warhead on the missile.
Pyongyang’s state media said the test successfully verified the atmospheric re-entry of the warhead, which experts say may be able to reach the U.S. state of Alaska.
“What the experts tell me is that the North Koreans have yet to demonstrate the capacity to do the guidance and control that would be required,” Selva, the second highest-ranking U.S. military official, added.
South Korea’s intelligence agency also does not believe North Korea has secured re-entry capabilities for its ICBM program.
South Korea on Monday proposed military talks with North Korea, the first formal overture to Pyongyang by the government of President Moon Jae-in, to discuss ways to avoid hostile acts near the heavily militarized border.
Since when does an atom bomb need to be accurate?
“any degree of accuracy”
That is soooo assuring.
(sarc)
this is not in the President’s knowledge. Yes the atomic fall out would cause havoc. radiation and damage to the ,power grid
Knowledge about atomic radiation is not important to the president fake news
Missing from the article is that even if the NK missile was successful, it could only reach as far as Alaska, and the fallout would pretty much only reach Northern Canada and Russia.
On the other hand, Japan is a nearby target. Read up on Korean-Japanese history, including Japan’s support role in the Korean War.
The so-called Vice Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff’s remarks are very reassuring (yeah, sure)! Look, the Japanese didn’t have guidance systems, either; however, in 1944, they sent hundreds of balloon bombs, across the Pacific Ocean, towards the United States. Many of them landed and exploded in the continental United States. One of them killed several members of a family in Oregon. The government at that time, censured the news, as it didn’t want to cause a panic. Hence, if primitive balloon bombs could cause death over seventy years ago, think of what an inter-continental ballistic missile, with conventional non-atomic weapons could do, today. In short, the General who made those misguided remarks, is nothing but a pompous fool!
