1 In 4 Chareidim Test Positive For Virus In Israel’s Chareidi Cities

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israel is facing a significant increase in cases of COVID-19 as well as in the number of people who are in serious condition or on respirators. However the Chareidi community has seen the biggest spike in cases in recent weeks. Whereas in previous periods the community had proportionately more than the average number of infected persons, at present Chareidim have triple the number of infections in the general population. This is borne out by results published by the Israeli health ministry Tuesday.

In the Chareidi town of Beitar Illit, 32.5% or 1 in 3 of the tests for COVID-19 led to a positive result, and in Elad 31.27% of those tested were positive for COVID-19. In Bnei Brak the numbers were 27.91%. This in contrast to the general population where the rates were about 10-12%. In Beit Shemesh 23% tested positive and in Jerusalem 17.72% of the tests were positive (Jerusalem’s numbers include the Arab sector which has been hard hit by the virus as well).

According to Dr. Sharon Elrai-Preiss, the director of public health services, in the past two weeks nearly 20,000 people in the Chareidi sector have contracted COVID-19, with more than half of them young people (0-29) with very light symptoms or with no symptoms but still infectious.

Additionally, more young people have developed serious cases with 32 cases in serious and critical condition as opposed to 200 cases in the 30-59 age group and 259 cases in the 60+ age group, meaning that nearly 50% of serious cases in the Chareidi public involve people under the age of 60.

Mortality from coronavirus is more prevalent among older people but still exists even in the younger category. According to health ministry figures, 177 members of the Chareidi public in Israel have passed away from the virus, or about 12%, which is roughly their proportion of the population. 15 of the victims were under the age of 60, meaning that 7% of the younger age group were also in danger of dying from the virus.

NONE OF THESE NUMBERS MEAN ANYTHING!
Most of the chareidi crown in Israel doesn’t test period. Only those who are already 99% sure may test sometimes none of the chareidi crowd goes just to test in case.

If there were no tests, no one would have it, right?
