NEW YORK CITY (VINnews) – NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced, that the city will fine people who refuse to wear a face mask starting Tuesday, following an uptick in Coronavirus cases.

The fines will be issued to those who refuse to wear a mask even after being offered a free mask and a warning that not wearing it will result in a fine.

The mayor noted that 9 zip codes are experiencing most of the increases. “The daily number is much affected by the challenges we are seeing in those nine zip codes,” the mayor said.

The 9 areas that have been fueling a surge in the city’s coronavirus rate are Gravesend/Homecrest, Midwood, Kew Gardens, Edgemere/Far Rockaway, Borough Park, Bensonhurst/Mapleton, Gerritsen Beach/Homecrest/Sheepshead Bay and Flatlands/Midwood.

“We don’t want to fine people. If we have to, we will,” Mayor de Blasio says. “Clearly, our goal, of course, is to give everyone a free face mask and get them to wear it.”

The mayor also said that the city’s health department has ordered non-public schools and child care centers to close if they do not follow the commission’s order on health safeguards.

The COVID test positivity rate for NYC hit above 3% on Monday, for the first time in months.

De Blasio reiterated his previous warning, that if the situation doesn’t improve, these neighborhoods will be scaled back to the previous shutdown stages, which will see schools close and non-essential businesses shut down.

“No one wants that to happen if it can be avoided,” de Blasio said. “If it does have to happen we will target it as carefully as possible but, at this point, it is a situation that is very serious and we have to have all options on the table.”

I don’t understand something. The law is that masks are only required outdoors if social distancing is not possible. So, whom are they targeting?

How much will the fine be? Can we use it as a tax write off? Business expense?

What about fines and jail time for the lawless trash who smashed Macy’s store windows (and looted), as well doing the same to other retail businesses nearby?

Is he going to fine the municipal union workers that don’t wear masks in truck and cars or out in the streets?

There maybe a constitutional issue if only certain areas are being shut done and fined. Perhaps a smart lawyer could make money on this
But in mean time wear your darn maskand keep the yeshivahs open and shuls as well

Lies, damned lies and statistics. I’m not denying the uptick, but citing the nine top zip codes is just a way of obfuscating facts. Present the information in a coherent way, please.

Everyone must obey ASAP.

Those that refuse to fall in lockstep with the dictates of the party should be treated like the Uighurs who defy the CCP (Communist Party) in China. Sent to re-education camps to be transformed into good liberals who will follow the liberal orthodoxy of the day without questioning.

2-3% of those that are going to test is way less than 2-3% of the general population. because obviously most people going to tet dont feel well and of those that are coughing 97% are not covid sounds great to me what am i missing

I wonder what DNC polling is telling them about the percentage of voters in this area who are going to be voting for the Republican nominee for president in a little bit over a month. My guess is Comrade de Blasio wants a lockdown .

I am FOR everyone wearing masks when they’re supposed to (streets that have more than a handful of people, kids walking with their friends, people going into any type of establishment, etc.)
I am AGAINST this heavy handed and discriminatory method of the De Blasio and Cuomo administrations. It is wrong (probably illegal), not helpful, and will result in more anti-semitic attitudes and attacks.
