Corporal Pheng Ly reached the scene after witnesses reported a crash off the I-80 highway near the city. The witnesses had stopped to try and help but were deterred by the flames of the burning car. Ly however approached the car and saw a woman lying unconscious inside. In a split-second decision, he managed to pull her out by her hands and remove her from the car.
“The Good Samaritans weren’t going to go in because of how dangerous and volatile the situation was, and I understand that,” he told CBS Sacramento.
“I realized her life was dependent upon my actions in the next 30-60 seconds and I needed to do something right away.”
This video from @cityofdavispd is an eye opening look at the situations police sometimes deal with. Wow.
