Edelstein said that “I wasn’t granted the right to light the fifth Chanukah candle. With me stood at that moment tens of thousands of people who are not wont to be photographed and during the last year they didn’t have one minute – I mean the doctors, nurses and assistants who have been fighting the coronavirus day and night.

” Just as in those days, in our time we did not rely solely on miracles. Many worked literally day and night to make this miracle possible. I wish to say thank you to them from here. They believed that it was possible to save the people of Israel from the pandemic and with G-ds’ help they will succeed. We hope that these lights of Chanukah will effect a huge light for the people of Israel.”

Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the Rabbi of the Western Wall and holy places, also thanked the representatives of the health system, stating that “Our rabbis taught us that there are many types of courage. The military courage of the Maccabees, the courage of Talmidei Chachamim studying Torah in secret, the courage of mothers and daughters. We merited seeing with our own eyes your courage. The courage of emergency rooms and departments, the courage of long shifts and perpetual concern. You are on the forefront of the battle and teach us every day what is courage, what is the power of the soul.”

Rabbi Rabinowitz also referred to the guests from the Emirates, stating that “who would have believed that peace would enter our home in such a grand way. It is a Chanukah miracle to see with us a delegation from the UAE and Bahrain participating in the lighting of the candles.”
