New York City Department of Education Openly Disses Italian-Americans

New York – Columbus Day is a Federal Holiday, and has always been a source of pride to Italian-Americans.

The Department of Education, however, has decided to openly disrespect the celebration of this day by renaming it Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous People Day.

For years, however, there have been attempts to besmirch Columbus as an instigator of violence against Native-Americans. The movement began in 1991 in Berkeley, California and has slowly grown ever since.

This past Tuesday, the DOE sent out an update Tuesday saying that the Columbus Day holiday will actually be renamed Italian Heritage Day / Indigenous People’s Day.

“Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous People’s Day will celebrate the contributions and legacies of Italian Americans and recognize that Native people are the first inhabitants of the land that became our country,” said DOE spokesperson Danielle Filson in a statement. “By including these holidays on our calendar we are honoring the past, present, and future contributions of Indigenous communities and Italian Americans.”

The move did not come without criticism. Two Democratic state Senators stated that they were “incredibly disappointed” in the decision to drop Columbus’s name from the holiday.

Both Diane Savino, who represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn, and Joe Addabbo of Queens, released a statement that the city’s “insensitive decision to eliminate Columbus Day, which is a legal, Federal holiday from their calendar and substitute it with Indigenous People’s (D)ay does a terrible disservice to a difficult and complex conversation. In one block-headed decision, they have harmed both communities and fanned the flames of division.”

Throughout the years there has often been much speculation that Christopher Columbus came from Jewish lineage. There are six indications that this may be true.

 1. Columbus was born in the Republic of Genoa, yet he spoke a very fluent Spanish. Most Genoans did not speak Spanish, unless they were Spanish-speaking refugees who fled the Spanish Inquisition.
 2. The Columbus family profession was weaving – traditionally a Jewish profession.
 3. In his mother’s line of the family, there were many typically Jewish names like Abraham and Jacob.
 4. His letters and journals are filled with references to Jewish scripture and dates from the Jewish calendar.
 5. There are squiggles at the top of each of his pages that appear to be a Bais Hay or something similar.
 6. Columbus selected many Jews and conversos—Jews forced to convert to Catholicism to escape persecution—as astrologers, navigators, and translators in his crew.

“there have been attempts to besmirch Columbus as an instigator of violence against Native-Americans”
This statement is rather coy. There is significant, albeit not absolute, evidence of Columbus’ violence towards the natives he encountered.
He was removed from his position due to allegations of brutality. Some reports have him amputating the hands of natives who did not bring a quarterly tax of gold.
He definitely took slaves from the islands.

You write “conversos—Jews forced to convert to Catholicism to escape persecution …”
The correct definition is Jews who chose to convert to Catholicism to escape persecution. It certainly was not a capricious choice, but they did have the alternative option of losing everything they owned and going into exile. Some did choose that option, some stayed and “converted.”

Columbus brought civilization and knowledge to people who were primitive, backwards and did savage things. Without European knowledge and perspectives they would still do human sacrifice.

His letters and journals are filled with references to Jewish scripture and dates from the Jewish calendar. Like landing in America on Hoshana Rabba:- Hence Columbus day Second Monday in October, around Hoshana Rabba time:- It is despicable of DOE & de Blasio to have maligned an important person & holiday.
