Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie tweeted a Holiday picture of his family holding firearms, including what appear to be an AR-15 rifle, and a gun that resembles an M60 machine gun.

The tweet has gotten intense backlash on Twitter.

Gun rights activist Fred Guttenberg replied to the tweet with a picture of his 14-year-old daughter Jaime, as well as her gravestone. She was murdered in the Parkland school shooting in 2018 in Florida.

He wrote: “Since we are sharing family photos, here are mine. One is the last photo I ever took of Jaime, the other is where she is buried because of the Parkland school shooting. The Michigan school shooter and his family used to take photos like yours as well.”

One twitter user wrote, “Massie tweets this out just days after a school shooting where the shooter used his ‘Christmas present’ gun and was caught by a teacher searching for ammo on his phone. Beyond tone-deaf.”

Democratic Congressman John Yarmuth, also from Kentucky, condemned the photo as well and called it “insensitive”.

He added, “I’m old enough to remember Republicans screaming that it was insensitive to try to protect people from gun violence after a tragedy.”

Massie represents a heavily Republican district. According to reports, a campaign manager for Massie did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

do not forget, the plishtim forbade all jews from owning weapons except for the king, and ever since, every oppressive regime has done the same. this is a sign that we are still free to some extent.

I find nothing wrong with this photo. Personally, I wouldn’t ever take a picture like it but this family has every right to do so.

Firearms are NOT tools of destruction. Firearms are tools of peace and defense against evil people. Firearms make it possible for a little 100lbs grandma to defend herself against a 300lbs career criminal high on crack, since police are designed to only take a criminal complaint as opposed to being your bodyguard 24/7. Without the law abiding citizens allowed to defend themselves, you have whatever is happening in Chicago, California, and NYC: only the criminals have guns, and the law abiding have as much defense as a herd of zebras in front of a lion pride. Without the good people being armed, there is no peace and no safety in a society.

If your car broke down in an unfamiliar place and you had a choice of getting stuck in this family’s neighborhood or East New York, you know what you’d choose. True it’s not a Yiddishe Zach. But I’m certain they’re pleasant respectful gentiles.

We as Orthodox Jews support these normal politicians. They have good family values, oppose the atheistic immoral lefties and support Israel. Too bad we can’t get such nice politicians in New York. We got Nadler and Schumer and AOC who support Iran with its nukes that threaten Israel. The kook politicians who let out criminals only to kill more innocent people. An upside down world. Dump DemocRATs.

I don’t agree to ban guns for the simple reason that that’s the first thing dictators do when they want to consolidate their powers. But, I do think that those who want them should be vetted more thoroughly so that crazies and criminals don’t get them.

The guy is an idiot for not realizing what the responses (or maybe he was looking for it and the attention ) but when a guy like him who lives on a cow farm and probably has been going on family hunting trips since he was born tweets such a picture of his family I don’t see any thing offensive about it.

Shows how demented the GOP MAGA crowd is. Xmas cards with family are supposed to show peace and tranquility, not murderous weaponry. Feh.

The weapon the Congressman is holding certainly doesn’t look like what’s used to hunt deer, bear or rabbits. What kind of gun it it?

> “Now imagine, if this was a photo by a black or Muslim family

What is that suppose to mean? The fact that the tweet even sinks to such a low as to make their remark merely displays the tweeter’s own racism.

Skin colour and religion are irrelevant. The one and only meaningful question is whether those holding the guns are out to protect the US Constitution or whether they are out to bring it down. And clearly the racist tweeter is implying that any Black and Muslim family are doing the latter.
