JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Three-year-old Choshen Ohayon from the town of Sderot in southwest Israel was born with a rare complication – a cataract in both eyes. His mother Sapir says that “they discovered this relatively early in the pregnancy and told me that there was a high chance he would be blind.”

At the age of five weeks old Choshen underwent an operation on one eye and after he recovered from the operation the other eye underwent an operation. After a period of rehabilitation and with the help of special contact lenses, the miracle happened: Choshen began to see.

Dr. Ahed Amteerat, a senior eye specialist at Soroka, said that “Choshen was born with a thick cataract which restricts his ability to develop proper sight. After we removed the cataract Choshen began to see light. Then we added the contact lenses.”

Sapir adds “on the first day we placed the contact lenses, we activated the mobile, something he had never seen and suddenly he looked, saw and responded. I believe that with the help of G-d and with the dedicated treatment of Dr. Amteerat and the staff at the hospital, his sight will improve.”
