The envelope arrived at the correct address in Boro Park but when the family opened the door they found that the envelope with all the important documents had disappeared. A surveillance camera revealed that the documents had been stolen and Boro Park-Shomrim issued the footage in an attempt to locate the thief.

The Israeli family, who were notified of the theft, were very distressed and had almost given up on finding the documents, which had taken a long time to process. However after several hours of searching, volunteers from Boro Park’s Shomrim located the envelope with the passports which had been thrown away by the thief when he realized they had no value to him.

In the last few months, Brooklyn residents have suffered numerous similar thefts of packages and envelopes arriving at their doorsteps. The thieves are usually released a few hours after police catch them and continue to steal packages as before.

Hashomrim released this video of the thief, who later threw the passports away.
