The child was identified as Eliyahu Shor, the only son of R’ Ariel Shor. Three other daughters were not in the house at the time and survived.

Four fire crews succeeded in controlling the conflagaration after it had caused heavy damage to the building. Police have opened an enquiry into the incident. Initial investigation revealed that the fire was most likely caused by a faulty heater.

MDA paramedic Oren Bril related that “when we arrived on the street we saw the fire and smoke emerging from the apartment on the top floor of the building. After we had extinguished the fire, we entered the apartment and found the child unconscious and lifeless and were forced to declare him dead. A 49-year-old man was lightly injured from smoke inhalation and was taken in stable condition to hospital for further treatment.

A doctor and paramedic from United Hatzalah’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit(MICU) treated a man and woman in light condition suffering from respiratory distress as a result of smoke inhalation.”

United Hatzalah’s psychotrauma team were also providing psychological assistance to family members who had suffered the painful loss of their home as well as a member of their immediate family.
