NEW YORK (VINnews) — On Wednesday, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) changed its definition of racism. The change came just one day after columnist Moshe Hill wrote an op-ed on VIN News, blasting the ADL’s old definition, which came about in 2020.

The timing is likely not a coincidence. ADL leader Jonathan Greenblatt, in a blogpost discussing the change, said that his decision came about “this week” due to people who “called out” the change and “vented their feelings.” It is uncanny that the change came about following Moshe’s op-ed. And while others surely contributed to the uproar on social media, Moshe’s piece was spot on and undoubtedly boosted the volume.
Looks like @ADL changed their definition of #racism less than 24 hours after I exposed them in @VINNews.
I’m taking full credit. https://t.co/GqN49mWLoC https://t.co/96npvOq1xR

Here is a quote from Moshe’s op-ed piece:
The new definition is one of those ideas that, as George Orwell puts it, is so stupid that only an intellectual could believe it. “Racism”, according to the ADL, is “The marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges white people.” The timing of this change coincided with the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, in which dozens of people were killed, scores more injured, and billions of dollars in property damage occurred.
The new definition is: “Racism occurs when individuals or institutions show more favorable evaluation or treatment of an individual or group based on race or ethnicity.”
And this is the old definition, pre-2020:
Following the definition change, Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, wrote the following explanation on Wednesday on his “Medium” Blog:
A few years ago, ADL updated our definition to reflect that racism in the United States manifests in broader and systemic ways and to explicitly acknowledge the targeting of people of color — among many others — by the white supremacist extremism we have tracked for decades. While this is true, this new frame narrowed the meaning in other ways. And, by being so narrow, the resulting definition was incomplete, rendering it ineffective and therefore unacceptable. It’s true, it’s just not the whole truth. It alienated many people who did not see their own experience encompassed in this definition, including many in the Jewish community. In all honesty, as I re-read it this past week, it struck me that it didn’t even speak to my own family’s experience with the racism they experienced as Jews from the Middle East. Many people noticed the change and called it out, taking to Twitter to vent their feelings. Some of these critics were allies operating in good faith who wanted us to do better. There also were numerous detractors who seized upon this issue as confirmation of a sinister plot to promote a political agenda or stop fighting antisemitism altogether. This certainly isn’t true, but with enough outrage and an Internet browser, a zealot can “uncover” a conspiracy in every digital breadcrumb.
That’s great but I wonder if it was for sure, undoubtedly, without question, and indisputably because of an op-ed on VIN that Jonathen Greenblatt never even heard of, or just maybe because many people recently brought this to light, one of which is Ben Shapiro who happens to have one of the most listened to podcasts out there.
Just wondering.
Or maybe could it be because of Ben Shapiro talking about it? Hmmmm
Just because the ADL says they get to define racism doesn’t mean they do. I can start an organization that defines “cholent” as pizza, but it won’t change what you eat on Shabbos.
can a person of color not also be a racist!
Got it. Its Adar…
But the damage is done. Mainstream opinion makers, like Whoopsi Goldberg, can point to the ADL definition as cover for their anti semitic version of truth. Thanks, Greenblat, and others who support “Jewish” organizations that stopped being Jewish decades ago.
Greenblatt has turned the ADL into an attack arm of the democratic party, attacking Republicans and covering for the Democrats Jew hatred and terrorist support.
They had changed in back in 2020 so BLM couldn’t be considered racists.
Oh yes, Greenberg just realized it when someone called him out. Before then he was in the dark. Gimme a break, they knew exactly what they were doing, ADL is nothing but a leftist organization
“more favorable evaluation or treatment of an individual or group based on race or ethnicity.” I guess Hashem is racist for takung the Jews out of Egypt, splitting the Reed Sea, giving the mahn, giving the Torah to the Jewish people, and giving Eretz Yisroel to the Jewish people.
That the ADL was founded to defend the memory of a convicted rapist and murderer seems to me to be a more troubling issue. This leftist cultural marxist agitator group has absolutely nothing to do with Judaism. If the ADL were to disappear right now the world would be a better place.
What a fruitcake
What a disgrace. The ADL is almost as bad as the UN in their treatment of Jews and Israel. It devolved into the ADL restricting the defamation to all but Jews. The idea that they and most other WOKE outlets had to jump on the BLM bandwagon is sad. Of all groups they should have supported ALM (All Lives Matter).
I like the first definition best
I noticed that by the ADL’s new definition, it says “interim definition”.
In sports, there are interim coaches, but this is the first time I’ve heard of “interim definitions”.
Vin has become a powerful voice and force to be reckoned with. Pls be careful with lobbyist rules, we would be devastated if your voice was stifled.
Is there any VIN merchandise I can buy online? Hats, t-shirts etc?
