JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In the wake of the crisis on the Russian-Ukrainian border and possible Russian invasion, the Israeli government is preparing a contingency plan for the emergency immigration of thousands of Ukrainian Jews, according to a report by Yisrael Hayom. The plan is being prepared by Absorption Minister Penina Tamnu-Shata in coordination with Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai, Housing Minister Director-General Aviad Friedman and other senior officials.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked are also participating in the plans, which involve a possible 5,000 people arriving weekly in Israel, according to an official involved in the preparations.
MK Zvi Hauser (New Hope) added that “we need to initiate actions to encourage immigration from the Ukraine and deploy the necessary means for absorbing quarter of a million Jews from there. We need to act like Yitzchak Shamir, who recognized at the end of the 80’s that there was a huge potential of attracting Aliya from the former USSR. This Aliya turned Israel into a start-up nation. We have a historic opportunity which must be used wisely to encourage Aliya from the Ukraine and to realize Israel’s goal as the state of the Jewish nation.”
British premier Boris Johnson said in a BBC interview Saturday evening that Russia is planning “the biggest war in Europe since 1945.” Johnson added that “All the signs are that the plan has already in some senses begun.”
Johnson referred to British intelligence reports which estimate that Russia intends to launch an invasion that will encircle Ukrainian capital Kyiv, explaining that “people need to understand the sheer cost in human life that could entail.”
The Washington Post reported that US intelligence had given President Biden information about the planned Russian offensive, adding that they had “obtained information about the directive” and said that the directive was being implemented by military officials.
