That’s a government mandate that even Republicans could appreciate.

A Republican New York Congresswoman has introduced legislation to require schools to offer chocolate milk to students.

Elise Stefanik put forth the bill in response to NYC Mayor Eric Adams–who follows a plant-based diet since he was diagnosed with Diabetes–saying he wants to ban chocolate milk because he feels that it’s sugar content is not healthy. If passed, the federal law would likely override a potential Adams ban.

“Mayor Adams fails to understand that delicious, flavored milk is how many of our kids access the essential nutrients in dairy for their development and that taking options away from children is not the answer,” said Stefanik.

“Let our New York students drink chocolate milk!”

Stefanik’s “Protecting School Milk Choices Act of 2022 says schools “shall offer students flavored and unflavored milk”.

Recently Adams said, “Chocolate milk is loaded with extra sugar and causes type 2 diabetes and obesity and other health issues…Instead of serving our children drinks that set them up for a lifetime of health problems, we should be giving them better options, such as water.”

But others point out that the majority of milk served in school is flavored and that chocolate milk offers nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D and potassium which outweigh the negatives of sugar intake.

A recent poll sponsored by the International Dairy Foods Association found that 90 percent of New York City voters with kids in public school support including low-fat flavored milk in public school meals.

Whether the bill passes or not, Stefanik will easily become the most popular Congresswoman among kids 13 and under.

Seems we had another mayor with similar thoughts. No large soda fountain drinks no formula for new mothers in hospitals no salt at restaurants Bloomberg tried this as well. Adams you have elevated sugar. Do watch your diet. More milk is dumped in grade schools then actually drunk

Those who oppose mandates should oppose this too. But seriously, compromises can be made to provide flavored milk with less sugar.

What’s with the neverending bans?
If you want to protect kids, educate them on the benifits of healthy eating, provide them healthy options and model healthy behavior.

Moderate sugar intake doesn’t bring diabetes for a HEALTHY PERSON. Someone who is overweight or has other health problems needs to monitor their sugar/carbs/starchies intake closely.

Because the mayor has diabetes we all need to take medication
