BROOKLYN (VINnews) — According to Newsweek, Tuesday’s Brooklyn subway attack that injured multiple people is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

The outlet quoted an anonymous NYPD official, who said that the suspect, still on the loose, is believed to be a 5-5, 175- to 180-pound Black male, entered the transit system at the intersection of 36th Street and 4th Avenue. He boarded a northbound R train, fought with passengers, and detonated a smoke bomb.
When the train arrived at the next stop, gunfire erupted. According to the source, the suspect wore a gas mask, an orange construction vest and a gray hoodie.
Brian Harrell, former Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary for infrastructure protection, said this looks like a “planned terror event”.
He was quoted by Newsweek saying: “Mass gathering areas, and soft target venues, continue to be an attractive target for criminals and terrorists.”
“All casualties are unacceptable, but this event could have been significantly worse had additional explosive devices detonated in such a confined area. Given New York City’s extensive camera and facial recognition systems, I suspect we will have answers soon to what looks like a planned terror event.”
