JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In the wake of Yisrael Beitenu head Avigdor Liberman’s attempts to pass a budget which includes significant cuts for yeshivos and kollelim, he chose to spell out his anti-chareidi philosophy during a party faction meeting.

Liberman said that he would stand firm despite coalition opposition: “We will not compromise on core curriculum studies in chareidi institutions,” Liberman said, adding that “those who don’t want to study the core curriculum can do it at your expense, not that of taxpayers. You can’t act against the coalition and then receive coalition money.”

Liberman attacked the yeshiva students themselves, stating that “Idleness studies are not holy studies.”

“Most of the money goes to kollelim where they study from age 29 until pension age. They sit there at the kollelim [where Talmud is studied], they come in the morning, eat a sandwich, drink coffee and talk politics, peruse some books, and go home. There’s no reason to fund them.” he added.

In response, Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahane said in the Knesset that “in my opinion, those who study Torah seriously are the reason that the People of Israel exist.”

Kahane added that when he goes to yeshivas he says that “whoever can learn Torah should do so and not do anything else since the People of Israel need to rely on him. I hope there will be many more people who will sit and study Torah seriously,” Kahane added.

Lieberman is describing exactly what politicians do. Do absolutely nothing and live off the public dime.

I don’t envy Lieberman’s end.

It’s funny how chilonim complain about a few million shekels given to haredim a year but they don’t make a beep and even some celebrate the 53.5 billion shekels given to the Muslim brotherhood so Abbas could come to firm the government, and they haven’t say a thing after they gave them 20 billions more so Zoabi wouldn’t leave the government, and say even less when Abbas demanded 20 imams be part of the ministry of interior. Who needs comedy with zionists like these?

The real question is, now that the draft for those over 23 is not present any more, why can’t those that want or are not for learning all day go to work? They do not need to serve in the army so what’s the excuse now?

To be fair, there should be some standards. Perhaps written nationwide tests on the Mesechta being learned or an oral bechina by third party Rebbeim, not from theiir town.
I am licensed in my field and decades ago there was such a system to be licensed with your skills being evaluated. There was also a written component.
One outcome might be less young men learning in Kolel with less complaints from the authorities. An alternative outcome, preferred, is those in kolel have a fear and do more serious learning and less shmuzing.

Liberman is the biggest antisemite, anti Torah and anti God person since Hitler.
Hitler only wanted to kill our bodies,
Liberman wants to kill our souls and our Olam HaBah.

It’s true that the Jewish people need people studying Torah for many reasons, but it’s also true that when every charidy male is supposed to learn a whole day against his nature, many people are going to sit around and drink coffee. It’s understandably upsetting when a whole subgroup aren’t paying taxes or sending their sons to the army.

Some people are saying, there is a it of truth, he is not completely wrong etc. admitting just a little bit. The truth is he is COMPLETELY right. I learned in Yeshivos as a single guy and had to drop some kollel chavrusas for they were not into the learning seriously. Some showed up late, funfered around, went to lunch an hour early, etc. I personally saw in several yeshivos what goes on.
If you have a rich father good for you, live the good life, however if others are paying your fare, do us all a favor and get a job like any normal person in society
You can scream all you want, but cant fool and insider!!

Liberman is showing his own lack of education. A sad fact in a mostly Jewish state where a leading politician does not understand the basics of Judaism and still lay claim to be a rightful heir to the land and govern according to his skewed misconception of a basic tenet of Judaism. This does not bode well for our sisters and brothers in Eretz Yisroel.

I’m not sure what everyone expects from him. He’s just calling it how he sees it. If this is the image we are exuding it’s our fault. He has no comprehension of anything. What else should he conclude? Has anyone ever tried explaining it to him? Or has any yungeleit worked on giving off a different image? And to see comments cursing him?? I’m not sure who is worse us or him. The people who know better or the guy who doesn’t know any better?

You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow. But the yeshivos are eating by the sweat of other people’s sweat.

Secular Jews just hate Frum Jews.

We should learn from them how we Frum Yidden to despise those who hate Hashem and the Torah.
Many Frum Yidden who try to be ultra nice call Mechlali Shabbos people “not yet Shomer Shabbos”.

Unfortunately, there is a grain of truth to what he is saying, which is what enables him to get away saying this.

The learning today has lost its connection to yiddishkeit. It R’L has become like college where they lehavdil study the subject of Torah without any connection to lemaaseh.

Today’s learning lacks the connection to yiddishkeit in that the learning is not in order to keep the Torah and Mitzvos, but R’L to just hock in pilpul without Alibah d’hilchisah. R’L he’s right about this.

He’s just helping the Kolel people by getting them another place to do a large protest – his house. They only go idle when they have no-where to protest.
