NEW YORK (Yaakov M / VINnews) — Commentator Yossi Gestetner put out a series of tweets this week, demonstrating the Democrats’ hypocrisy on gun control. He called it a “farce” to suggest that only Republicans are blocking gun control legislation.

Mr. Gestetner noted that Democrats passed zero gun control bills, even with a 60 seat filibuster-proof Senate under President Obama. In addition, poll numbers which claim that Americans overwhelmingly support gun control are misconstrued by the mainstream media.
(On Thursday, President Biden called upon Congress to pass broad sweeping gun control measures.)
Here are Mr. Gestetner’s tweets: (Actual tweets embedded below)
Today, @chucktodd of @MeetThePress said that there are no changes to gun laws due to Republicans. Remind him how little-if-anything Obama with a 60-seat Senate did on this in 2009. In Democrat NY you can buy a long arm without a license.
It’s a farce that Republicans are in the way of more reforms as if all @SenateDems are in favor of whatever noise @JoeNBC and his guests push.
Obama in 2009 had 60 Senate seats and solid house majority too, but didn’t deliver massive changes to gun laws like Brady bill and 1994 AWB. Is opposition stronger among GOPs? Sure, but half of Senate Dems don’t have the support at home for monumental changes.
At a Democrat debate for prez in 2019, Eric Swalwell noted that he is the only Dem on stage that favors an assault weapons buyback program. Not confiscation. Just a buyback and he was the lone Democrat on stage in favor of it.
One of the oft-repeated claims by Dems is that “90% of Americans, regardless of political party, want universal background checks.” In fact, days ago
@PolitiFact ruled this claim as “mostly true.”
The article writes that “when pollsters asked Americans if they supported background checks for all sales, they found similar numbers. Quinnipiac in 2021 found 89% overall support, with support among 98% of Democrats and 84% of Republicans.”
But… I looked up the relevant @QuinnipiacPoll question, and this is what it was:. “Do you support or oppose requiring background checks for all gun buyers?” 89% said yes.
Saw that?
“All gun buyers.”
Not all gun buys.
Not “private sales.”
Not “parent to grown child.”
Even IF a poll were to ask if people support “requiring background checks for all gun sales,” it can mean different things for different people. We need polls that spell out clearly what “universal background checks” mean. But let’s look deeper in that Quinnipiac Poll:
Only 52% favor a ban on the sale of “assault rifles.” Only 51% favor banning magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
This in a poll whose party demo I did not check, and whose result may have been swayed by a mass shooting pre-polls, yet there is no “90% support for X.” The @GallupNews poll of 2018 mentioned in the @AmySherman1 article shows 56% (not 90%) supporting “banning the sale of semi-automatic weapons such as the AR-15.”
When asked more generally about outlawing “assault rifles,” 57% OPPOSED it in 2018 and 51% opposed it in 2019.
Get THIS from the March 2018 Gallup poll: When asked which approach Congress should focus on to prevent more mass shootings at school, 56% said security measures and mental health, while only 41% said laws on guns and ammunition.

Democrats know the details of these polls and their own internal polls. There is no 90% support flying around for anything!

11/13 Note that when Gallup asked about banning the sale of assault weapons such as AR-15s, support was at 56% but when asked in general terms about banning assault weapons, support was only 40% in 2018 and 47% in 2019.
Every word in these questions matter and pollsters know it.

We actually used to have spokesmen who cared about the Jewish people – now the so called Jewish spokesmen only care about themselves- there is no need for our spokespeople to get involved in this debate.. Educated Archy is spot on on his comments it’s time to unite. Our political leaders on both sides are pretty bad nowadays lets get things done and stop with the stupidity.
The way i see it if you can’t go into a casino until your 21 because you don’t have the necessary fortitude to make smart choices and control your impulses you certainly shouldn’t be allowed to own a gun till you are 21.
I also believe out of respect for the victims the nra should have postponed their meeting in the same state where the crime took place for a few weeks.
If Biden is looking to get things done, getting up there and saying how its the republican’s fault is stupid. Politicizing the issue and making this a 2022 issue won’t help save lives. Biden who campaigned as the emphatic uniter in chief is doing horrible. He should be geteing up there and wiining over republcian support. Making it an us against you thing never worked with coivd and it won’t work here either. Even Obama was smarter than that. (Yes I like Obama better than Biden. I may have disagreed with his policy but I think he was a smart perosn) What biden did last night esentially shot any chances of getting things done.
Very sad
If Biden was so concerned about gun control, then why leave $85 billion worth of weaponry in Afghanistan?
Dem prosecutors in big Dem cities routinely refuse to prosecute gun crimes.
Its all politics. There is no serious plan to actually protect the public.
The American citizen is being disarmed. What will result from this. Only Gd knows, to be continued.
The whole democrat reaction to this tragedy has been clearly political. In other words, the motivation they have is very different from what they claim in their public statement while they continuously invoke their god, too.
No reason to oppose raising the age for semi automatic rifles to 21 and closing the gun show loopholes. Also former gun owners should be held liable if guns stolen from during a burglary are used in a crime because they hadn’t secured the gun in a safe. As many guns sold on city streets were stolen this may have a positive impact on lessening gun traficking.
After Sandy Hook, a bipartisan background check bill, drafted by Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey, won the support of a Senate majority. It was defeated, four months after the tragedy, by a filibustering Senate minority.
It is easy to complain. What is this fellow in favor of?
Can you bring the second amendment to the Israeli constitution. It will be wonderful to have guns for self protection, and for sport.
