British Foreign Secretary Slams Iran For ‘Spreading Bloodshed’ And ‘Threatening Entire Region’

NEW YORK (VINnews) — During the course of the Manama Dialogue Conference taking place in Bahrain, Britain’s Foreign Minister James Cleverly issued a sharp criticism of Iran. Cleverly accused Iran, situated just across the Persian Gulf from Manama, of “spreading bloodshed” from the Middle East to Kyiv.

Cleverly vowed that Britain will continue to work with its allies across the region to counter Iranian aggression.

In recent weeks Ukraine and its Western allies accused Iran of supplying Russia with attack drones which were used against Ukraine. Tehran conceded that it had sent drones to Russia but claimed that they were sent prior to Russia’s February invasion of Ukraine.

Cleverly warned that these weapons “threaten the entire region”, echoing concerns voiced a day earlier by EC president Ursula von der Leyen at the same conference, stating that Iran’s “weapons proliferation” is a threat to Europe.

Cleverly also referred to the mass civil unrest in Iran, following the death of an Iranian woman in custody after she allegedly breached the country’s draconian dress code.

“As their people demonstrate against decades of oppression, Iran’s rulers are spreading bloodshed and destruction across the region and as far away as Kyiv”, Cleverly said.

“Britain is determined to work alongside our friends to counter the Iranian threat”.

Cleverly also criticized Russian President Putin for threatening global security.

“No country is immune from the turmoil he has brought to world markets or the damage he has caused to global food security”, he said.

“Putin’s war is inflicting yet more suffering on Syrians and Yemenis, who were already enduring the privations of humanitarian emergency, and ordinary Lebanese, caught up in economic crisis.”
