Initial police investigations of the accident revealed that the three youths, Uri Malul, Ariel Stern and Daniel Porat were returning from late-night entertainment in Kiryat Shmoneh and made an illegal U-turn without noticing a car coming opposite them.

The Upper Galilee regional authority declared that “a horrific tragedy occurred last night, as three youths from Kibbutz Kfar Blum were killed in a road accident. The Kibbutz’s directors and social workers are accompanying the families in their difficult hour.”

The three youths worked together at the Si-Kafeh coffee house near Kiryat Shmoneh and had come to spend a vacation day at the coffee house. Friends said that the three were inseparable and when one of them was on duty the others would come just to support him and be with him. The three worked as chefs in the kitchens, with Uri serving as a kitchen supervisor despite his youth. The coffee house closed as stunned co-workers tried to comprehend the tragedy which had befallen them.
