WATCH: Former Israel Supreme Justice Aharon Barak Places Tefillin After Contentious Mishpacha Interview

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In what has been viewed by many as a media gimmick, former Israeli Supreme Court Chief Justice Aharon Barak was photographed by the Mishpacha magazine wearing Tefillin. At the end of a stormy interview with journalist Aryeh Erlich, who said that “there were almost no agreements in the stormy and even fiery interview but then things took a surprising turn.” Erlich asked Barak to put on Tefillin and the justice, one of just a handful of child survivors of the Kovno Ghetto, agreed to put them on. Erlich said the Brachos and Kriyas Shma with Barak and described it as “the most moving moment in my professional career.”

Barak has been appearing almost daily in the Israeli press to express his opposition to judicial reforms being formulated by the new government. During the interview Barak insisted that judges should appoint other judges as they are the best people to assess their professionalism. He asked the interviewer; “Would you want others to appoint Dayanim?” and denied that this would lead to nepotism.

Many chareidi viewers who shared the video said that Barak wanted a picture to impress religious Jews that he is not looking to foment civil war, an accusation which has been levelled at left-wing politicians who have spoken out against the government.

On a chareidi whatsapp group people pointed out that Barak had not worn the Tefilin Shel Rosh correctly and had not had the proper number of bindings on the hand. However others saw Barak’s interest as a genuine sign of his wish to show reverence for Jewish customs.

His opinions are gimmicks. His tefilin is what’s authentic….

Everyone starts somewhere. His start wasn’t easy. Even if he did it as publicity stunt which I doubt, Lo l’shmo bo l’shmo.

Yes it WAS a media gimmick.
But not by Barak, who was likely sincere, both in his opposition to the reforms and to wanting to reconnect with tefillin.
Rather a gimmick by Mishpacha, to get more publicity for their shameless rag.

how is it Barak’s gimmick when it was Aryeh Erlich who asked him to put it on. was he supposed to say no??

i mean he was asked to put on Teffilin and he agreed, why not? had he said no we’d be screamed that he’s a blatently anti-religious & a self hating Jew.

this is the thing with us, no matter what they do its wrong.

I know a frum yeshivishe yungerman in Yerushalaim who is a lawyer and spent much time working with Aharon Barak in the 1990s. He once told me that he can absolutely vouch that Aharon Barak is not anti-chareidi. He has his distorted visions of what the role and function of a supreme court should be. He is dead wrong but he truly has nothing against frum yidden.

It’s called “lipstik on a pig”
This guy Barak is a bona fide Hellenist, who’s mission in life is to turn Israel into another Hellenistic Canaanite state

The Supreme Injustice lived long enough to see how his illegal Kingdom of 30+ years is being dismantled swiftly before his eyes. “Justices are like a family” he once said, and continued “we don’t accept just anyone into the family”. The entrance rules to the “family” will be amended within a month. The Israeli supreme court will not longer be the product of a cookie cutter he designed in his own “godly” image. Same for the outreach, power and authority he illegally grabbed and used, as did all his subsequent ilk.
Naturally, His Injustice Lowness experiences hysteria like never before. Barak’s carpet bombing of interviews with media admirers exposed his ugly dictatorial soul even though the talking heads tried hard to blur it. I believe he thought that משפחה will treat him with silk gloves, as did everyone else. It did not go well for him, according to the magazine’s editor. The icing on the cake is a picture of an aging schlimazel who is evidently far out of his comfort zone while the Chabadnik who dressed him up thinks he did a great Mitzvah, which he did not, IMO. Barak is a RASHA MERUSHA and his road to repentance begins at the entrance to hell. What will come out on the other side we don’t know.
The Israeli social media, including Twitter, is mostly disgusted with the man and his futile efforts to save the kingdom of evil he created.
You know, when I was in my twenties Aharon Barak was my hero. I shared his hate to non-secular Jews. I was the product of the secular “education” system and socialist secular media propaganda. Only in my late thirties I realized what a fool I was and things changed fundamentally for me, B”H.

Its really neither here nor there.

The truth is that many in Israel respect the frum. But at the same time they are against the frum in the govt because they want the medina to be secular in nature and don’t want people to impose on them. The frum olim thinks these “evil” tzionim are out to get them like Ben gurion who hated the frum. Todays tzionim aren’t out to get you. They just want you to let them live and contribute. We may disagree with that notion but this isn’t us against them.
