Former Meretz MK Yair Golan calls for strikes to 'paralyze the economy' as a protest against judicial reforms

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Despite a significant crowd – estimated at 80,000 by some news outlets – gathering in Tel Aviv Saturday night in driving rain to protest against judicial reforms being prepared, the new Israeli government remains unmoved.

“This evening, there were tens of thousands of people at the demonstration; at the elections two and a half months ago, there were millions,” stated MK Miki Zohar in response to the Tel Avvi demonstration.

“We promised the public change, we promised governance, we promised reforms, and we will follow through,” he clarified.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that: “In the year of the previous leftist government, we protested again and again, but the media hardly mentioned the demonstrations after the fact or by accident,” he claimed. “Despite this, we toppled the government, and we won the elections. The nation is with us, and through its strength, we will reform the justice system.”

Protesters have vowed to continue the demonstrations and to step up the protest actions including initiating strikes which will paralyze the economy and force the government to respond to the demonstrations.

Former Meretz MK Yair Golan said on Ynet news that “I call for the wide use of the two tools available to citizens who are not prepared to wake up one morning and discover they are no longer living in a democracy — and that is the right to demonstrate and the right to strike,” Golan said.

Golan claimed that some sectors of the economy had already agreed to strike.

“We must ratchet things up. Netanyahu’s destructive gang will not understand that we’re serious until economic life is paralyzed, until services are not provided and until roads are blocked,” Golan said. “The struggle will be bitter and difficult but with determination, courage and perseverance, we will win. Israel must be saved.”

Roi Newman, leader of the Black Flag protest group which orchestrated weekly demonstrations during Netanyahu’s previous tenure as prime minister, told Channel 12 news on Saturday that he knows arrangements are being made for “strikes by companies.”

They shouldn’t block roads, because then people will miss their flights. Bus riders won’t be able to get home in time to take their life saving medications. Fathers and mothers won’t be able to say good night before their children fall asleep. Etc etc…
Oh wait. That only applies to Chareidim. For chilonim, they have a right to do whatever it takes to get their point across.

I’m curious to see if the Israeli police respond to these demonstrations with the same heavy handed methods they’ve recently used to respond to Haredi protests, not that two wrongs make it right.

Just like the anti trumpers. Can’t handle a democratically elected loss. Maybe wear some pink hats?

“Riots are the language of the unheard.” MLK Jr.

Brother Martin did not intend that as a recommended course of action!

Ingrates. They should learn to respect the Shabbos and other authority of the Torah Hakadoshah. The land will eventually send them away because of their brazen disregard for Torah-based authority where the true definition of democracy and freedom is found.

Big deal. All the years cheradim protested noone cared. We numbered in the 100’s of thousands
