JERUSALEM (VINnews) — One of the steps proposed by the Israeli cabinet during a meeting to discuss the response to the current terror wave is to revoke the citizenship of terrorists, which would enable their deportation from Israel.

A bill submitted to the Knesset plenum on Monday would enable this step to be taken, after the bill has been deliberated in the Knesset’s Interior and House committees.

Once a final draft has been agreed upon by the two Knesset committees, the bill will proceed to the full Knesset Monday, where it is expected to pass by a wide margin. The proposal has bipartisan support in the Knesset and would enable the Interior Minister to have broad powers allowing him to nullify the citizenship or residency status of convicted terrorists.

Under the proposed bill, any terrorist who was convicted and jailed can be stripped of Israeli citizenship or residency and deported to the Palestinian Authority if the terrorist received any funds from the Palestinian Authority. The PA currently offers stipends to jailed terrorists and the families of slain terrorists.

Coalition members have been pushing for stronger measures in response to the Neve Yaakov attack, in which seven people were murdered and three others injured.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the government to expedite home demolitions and deportations of the families of terrorists, as a deterrent against future attacks. Smotrich said that if the families would be deported to Gaza, their home demolished and their possessions given to the victims of terror, this could prevent future terrorists from initiating imitation attacks.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir reportedly demanded a curfew for the Shuafat neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem, while Smotrich proposed that movement out of Arab neighborhoods in the capital be limited. However Shin Bet leaders said that this was collective punishment and would only serve to fuel anti-Israel sentiment and encourage further attacks.

Ben-Gvir also requested a “house by house” operation to confiscate clandestine weapons in East Jerusalem, first targeting the village of A-Tur where the Neve Yaakov terrorist came from.

They write they will take away their Israeli citizenship, but inevitably send them to the Palestinian Authority. They’ll be treated like kings over there and be able to commit attacks again. They need to be deported somewhere much further than that
