The money is tax money which Israel collects for the PA from goods it provides in Israel. On a normal basis, Israel offsets the sum given to terrorists by the PA, estimated at 50 million NIS. On this occasion Smotrich announced that he would be offsetting a further 50 million NIS and transferring 200,000 NIS to families of terror victims in accordance with court rulings.

Smotrich said Thursday that “We deducted 100 million instead of the usual 50 million. The PA is funding terrorists, and Israel has said: No more. The citizens of Israel will not participate in this farce.”

In the wake of the Jenin anti-terror operation on Thursday in which 9 terrorists were killed, the PA said that it would not be continuing security coordination with Israel.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also took steps to harshen the conditions of convicted terrorists in Israeli jails. After he found out that the terrorists receive fresh pitas daily, he ordered the cessation of this custom and also revoked their rights to have televisions in their cells. Widespread protests broke out over Ben-Gvir’s steps and there were even a number of rocket salvos from Gaza, although no significant damage was reported. The IDF bombed targets in Gaza in response to the rocket fire.
